A successful Internet of things (IoT) environment requiresstandardization that contains interoperability, compatibility,reliability, and e�ectiveness of the operations on a globalscale. �e rapid growth of the IoT causes a sharp growth ofdata. Enormous amounts of networking sensors are con-tinuously collecting and transmitting data to be stored andprocessed in the cloud. Such data can be environmental data,geographical data, astronomical data, logistic data, and soon. Mobile devices, transportation facilities, public facilities,and home appliances are the primary data acquisitionequipment in IoT. �e volume of such data will surpass thecapacities of the IT architectures and infrastructure ofexisting enterprises and, due to real-time analysis character,will also greatly impact the computing capacity. Manage-ment of these increasingly growing data is a challenge for thecommunity in general. Due to the generation of big data byIoT, the existing data-processing capacity of IoT is becomingine�ective, and it is imperative to incorporate big datatechnologies to promote the development of IoT. It is im-portant to understand that the success of IoT lies upon thee�ective incorporation of big data analytics. �e widespreaddeployment of IoT also gives a challenge to big data com-munity to propose new techniques since both big data andIoT are interdependent themselves. On the one hand, thewidespread deployment of IoT provides data both onquantity and on category, thus providing the opportunity forthe application and development of big data; on the otherhand, the incorporation of big data analytics in IoT si-multaneously accelerates the research advances and businessmodels of IoT.
�is special issue provides some exciting papers in thisarea covering topics like the fault tolerant mechanism for bigdata applications using the cloud, hybrid parallel load-bal-ancing algorithm for big data application, privacy-pre-serving service recommendation over sparse data, andgenetic algorithm for the coevolution of meteorological datain the industrial Internet of things.
