Inventor of Basketball • James Naismith

• He was born in Canada

• He invented basketball in America

• He was born in 1861

• He invented the game because while conducting a P.E. class at the International YMCA Springfield training school, Naismith was given the task of creating a new! Indoors sports activity that keeps energetic kids busy.

Culture of basketball• Since men in the 1860’s spent most of their

time working on farms they didn’t have much time for games such as basketball.

• When they played anything at all in their spare time it was billiards, or as we say now cards or poker.

• Basketball has developed in terms of social-economical culture, and ethic spheres alike as it has evolved into a game continually created by whites and dominated by blacks

Relationship between Topics

•A lot more men play the sport basketball then when Naismith first invented it.•Blacks couldn’t play basketball with whites and really didn’t have a good place to play basketball freely.•Since slavery was going on , blacks only played on streets and in allies as a sport of their own, in Civil-war America.

Reflection Page• I know my sources are valid because first I had to do a

works citied page and I made sure that my authors had a valid resource by comparing their work to other resources.

• I didn’t really encounter any hardware/software problems. The only thing that happened was in the lab “Access Denied” popped up a couple of times, but to fix this I just went to a different reliable website .

• Technology is constantly changing, especially in the world we live in its also changing us as civilized Americans. These changes have been difficult to work with, and in the future these changes are going to happen faster, with less time to prepare. Unless we think about the choices we make before we make the wrong decisions, that can effect ourselves, and the world around us.

Changes since 1860s to Now!•Basketball began with 2 peach baskets hung up on opposite sides of a court with 2 teams of 5•Now we have a plastic or glass backboard with a metal rim and net.•The basketballs were just soccer balls but they made them so they’ll have more bounce, now an NBA basketball is made of composite leather, a synthetic material designed to withstand slam dunks and allow all-stars like Kobe Bryant to keep a good grip as they go for the ally-oop! WNBA balls are also made of composites but are slightly smaller because female players tend to have smaller hands. High school and college stars use real leather balls sometimes.

Changes in Clothing•Since the 1860s clothing has been a lot different but the same concept.•In the 1860s men wore short shorts, long socks. I guess the jerseys were loosely fit, and sneakers.•Now they wear knee length shorts, some wear ankle socks, some still wear long socks but not to long, and they still wear sneakers. However they are all well coordinated, because in order to play like a team you got to look like a team.
