Remedial Cementing of Oil and Gas Wells Remedial cementing is the name given to the process of repairing a poor primary cement job around steel tubulars in oil and gas wells. It is also a term widely applied to the recompletion of wells, using cement to shut-off old perforations that produce unwanted gas or water or perforations adjacent to depleted zones. The isolation of such intervals is important to maintain production from wells. Depleted zones act as pressure sinks and, if left open, valuable hydrocarbons are lost to such intervals. Zones that produce water, on the other hand, can readily cause total loss of production by hydrostatic loading in low pressure wells.

While it is not the only technique used to achieve isolation of troublesome intervals or to repair poor primary cement jobs, remedial cementing is the most widely applied. This 3- day course identifies the types of problem that are best addressed by remedial cementing and the design parameters used in the testing and selection of suitable cement systems for such applications. It also presents newer techniques that can reduce wellsite costs and improve results while minimizing environmental impact. The course also discusses in detail the techniques used for cement evaluation as well as their limitations both for identifying remedial cementing candidates and for assessing the effectiveness of those wells where remedial cementing has been carried out.

Course Outline

Problems Associated With Primary Cementing Squeeze Cementing Plug Cementing Cementing Temperature Issues for Squeezes/Plugs Testing Procedures Improved Techniques for Remedial Cementing Cement Evaluation Techniques Rules of Thumb – Good and Bad!

Who Should Attend

Anyone who is routinely involved in primary cementing, workover or recompletion operations or who has supervisory duties associated with such work will find this course useful. It provides both theoretical and practical information on the correct processes and the common pitfalls associated with this important wellsite activity. Application of this knowledge can save rig time and increase the success ratio in remedial operations.

Young Professionals and the Petroleum Industry This 4-day course is a blend of essential interpersonal and business skills that were likely not taught in any engineering school. Within the petroleum industry, demographics are indicating a significant number of industry professionals retiring in the short term. The consequence of this demographic shift is that our industry will require young professionals to fill the gap. They will be asked to step into more significant roles at potentially earlier phases of their careers than their predecessors. Will these young professionals be ready to make this adjustment to secure the future of our industry? This course will equip young professionals with the tools and knowledge necessary to bridge the gap as they transition to a more significant role. Presented as a winning combination of interactive and narrative styles this course uses numerous recognized sources in areas ranging from business literature, sales and entrepreneurship, and professional societies. These, along with the experience of InTuitions’ associate partners, have been be utilized to create the foundation of the program. To accelerate the learning process, attendees are asked to have access to a lap top computer and a basic knowledge of the Microsoft suite of software products.

Designing a Custom Course InTuition Energy Associates allows you, the client, to construct custom courses to more closely meet the needs of your operations in the area where you work. To accomplish this we take one of our standard course offerings and change modules, within that course, adding those that you feel are most useful and removing those that you feel are not relevant. We can provide guidance in this process to ensure that we meet or exceed your requirements. A typical example of this would be in areas where training for Acid Stimulation is required. In some oil and gas producing regions, sandstone reservoirs may be predominant whilst in others carbonates may be the principal reservoir rock. In either case, the training focus for acidizing can be tuned to the specific reservoir type. In addition, certain challenges within a region, such as scale deposition, heavy crudes, water production, etc can be addressed by switching modules of general interest with those that bring more focus to the problems that are prevalent in your area of operations. Thus, modules from other courses such as Formation Damage, Mature Field Rejuvenation or Well Conformance may be inserted, in any combination, if these better reflect your interests. InTuition courses are all designed on a modular basis, with each module being a complete in-depth topic. This allows us to easily reconstruct courses to meet the various needs of our clients. However, we strongly recommend that any custom course proposed uses one of our standard courses as a basis for the course outline. This will ensure a more thorough understanding of the subject matter and allow students who attend other courses to receive a broader, more constructive oilfield education. Please feel free to review our course outlines and modules contained within our standard courses, along with the additional modules presented in our Custom Modules page. If you feel that you would be better served by a customized course, we would be pleased to provide you with a quote, which can be obtained from our website or by sending an e-mail to us at [email protected] .

Environmental Compliance in the Oil and Gas Industry

The oil and petrochemical industries, which have been responsible, to a large extent, for the development of the modern world and vast improvements in living standards in many places, are often targeted mercilessly by environmental activists. This is done without due regard to the criticality of oil both as a fuel and as the fundamental raw material for countless pharmaceuticals, dyes, plastics and consumer products.

This 2-day seminar examines the major environmental issues facing our industry, specifically, and our planet, in general. Greenhouse gas emissions and global warming, oil spills and pollution, the implications of ethanol and bio-fuels are considered within the context of increasing world energy demand and declining hydrocarbon reserves.
