PERFORMANCE ADVOCACY INSTITUTE: August 8-20, 2010, Aizpute, Latvia. Chapbook, written and produced, during NEXT’S Performance Advocacy Institute in Aizpute, Latvia, introduces the voices of fourteen young Latvian poets writing in English. These poems were developed in workshops designed to give the students skills and voice in orde and voice in order to advocate and promote change in the parts of their world that matter most: their own. The poems here don’t necessary address any specific problem – some do, while others just explore the meaning of a name, or the idea of parody, or the human voice in a monologue. The class looked at protest poetry, political poetry and performance poets as examples.The PerformanceThe Performance Advocacy Institute consisted of the following classes:
