PatriciaWhat is your ethnicity? i’m irish and italian. While i do have a mild temper, i really like the fact that i can drink anyone under the table, thanks to my irish roots.

Where are you originally from? i’m from the Redlands in Homestead Florida. My house was on the second to last street before civilization ends, and the Everglades begins.

What is the best pick-up line you have heard? The best pick up line will always be “are you hungry? Can I buy you food?” yeS! yeS! yeS! you have my undivided attention” I must say that is the best way to get my attention!

What is the worst pick up line you ever heard? The worst pickup line i’ve ever heard is “How do you like your eggs?

Fertilized?” This made me want to vomit. This was definitely a Long Island drinker!

What is your favorite drink? i would have to say it would definitely be something like a rum punch. it tastes like an island vacation, it’s sweet and it’s cute but... That’s basic Patty talking. When I mean business pass me a Vodka Tonic, with a cup of limes on the side..

What is the most ordered drink at your bar? People like fireball. I wish I had a dollar for every time someone shouted “Fireball” at the bar. I WOULD RETIRE!!

What is the craziest thing you have see happen at your bar? The craziest thing i’ve seen happen was a while back i saw a guy dipping a girls feet in cheese sauce and licking the cheese sauce off her toes. It

was almost hard to watch and had a lot of people nauseated. Cheese sauce will never look appetizing to me again!

What do you like best about your job? There’s a lot to like about bartending. But you’re only as happy as the environment you work in. one of the things i like most about my job is talking to people who are usually enjoying the best part of their day/week. People can let go of the worlds stress and finally relax when they sit down at your bar. i see people who would normally not even speak to each other, with their arms on one another’s shoulders, singing songs together, and teaching each other how to line dance. So my favorite part of my job is seeing people really let go and thoroughly enjoy themselves.

Miami Heat survive rough January, Look strong Heading into final Half of season

spOrts

By ALLeN LeViN SPorTS EDITor

florida panthers produce Historic run and Look poised to Make playoff run

The Miami Heat had a rough January. They played 12 out of 17 games away from

home and were banged up due to a variety of nagging injuries to multiple players.

Despite the 17 road games, the Heat survived the rough stretch, going 9-8 overall while propelling up to the 4th seed in the Eastern Conference (as of the writing of this article).

Miami went 6-6 over the 12 road games and showed real poise in winning the final 3 games of their trip, including a gritty win over the Chicago Bulls that may have saved the season.

The Heat played large portions of January with-out starting point guard Goran Dragic and starting center Hassan Whiteside, as well as key reserves Tyler Johnson, Josh McRoberts and Beno Udrih.

However, the Heat withstood the trying time and their players healed on the way to a strong January finish.

Now, the Heat will head into the All-Star Break with a good deal of momentum, having won 4 straight (as of the writing of this article) as well as finding a potential winning formula on offense with a Amare Stoudemire, Chris Bosh, Luol Deng, Dwyane Wade and Goran Dragic lineup.

The reemergence of Stoudemire has been a huge lift for the Heat, as he has been able to space the floor by setting timely screens and allow Wade and Dragic to operate in the paint.

The Heat will need to keep up this style of play as they head into the final months of the season before the playoff push.

There is still a good amount of schedule left, but if the Heat can keep this up, they will be in good shape come playoff time.

If you haven’t been paying attention to profes-sional ice hockey in South Florida over the past couple of months, you have been a mistake. The Florida Panthers went on a historic 12-game

winning streak, their longest streak in franchise his-tory, and propelled themselves all the way to first place in the Atlantic Division.

The streak came to an end against Vancouver, but the success was already etched in the Panthers play and confidence.

In addition to the 12 games, they also won a franchise best 6 straight games on the road and Roberto Luongo had a career-best nine games with 30 saves.

Overall, it was an excellent learning experience for a young team and got them some much needed big-game experience.

Now, the Cats have a 5-game lead in the Atlantic

Division with 63 points (as of the writing of this article), which is already just 28 points from last season’s mark with still half of the season to play.

The key to Florida’s success has been outstand-ing goaltending from Luongo and backup Al Mon-toya, as well as the maturation and development of the Panthers young stars.

Most notably has been Aaron Ekblad, who has emerged as one of the team’s best defenders. The Cats have won 15 straight games with Ekblad on the ice.

Also, Jonathan Huberdeau has appeared to re-turn to his rookie form, leading the team in points

and setting the overall tone on offense. Then, there is of course, the amazing story

that is JaromirJagr, who at 43-years-old, is still finding a way to make a huge impact. He is second on the team in points and goals as of

the writing of this article, and has been a men-tor for the younger players. The Cats have a ways to go before the playoffs,

but they have an excellent opportunity to finish first in the division and become a major threat in the playoffs.
