Choudhary International Leather Footwear Company is a star export house based in Mumbai. Founded in 1987 they are manufacturers and exporters of leather footwear. They have four production units in and around Mumbai and a cumulative capacity of 8000 pairs of footwear a day. Seasonal production amounts to 1.5 million pairs. Their niche is developing styles which appear inherently European with a corpuscle of ethnic indian handwriting.

+My internship experience

I spent this summer honing my designing skills at a leather footwear company in Mumbai. I was a part of the merchandising and sampling department and designed leather sandals for 5 European brands. I was under two Spanish designers of Oca-loca a well renowned kids footwear brand in Spain . I learnt sketching , pattern cutting and physical leather cutting.

How paris inspired me

This fall I headed to Paris , to accompany my father on a business fair and fortuitously I found my inspiration in a Yves Saint Laurent exhibit. The one garment I found captivating was a long black suit with a knee skirt . The fact that it had buttons from the collar all the way to the bottom was rather intriguing and unseen at that point in time. Although this collection of Yves Saint Laurent was disparaged by many and lauded only by a few , I found the combination of the black coat with pink and red sequences on it attractive and unique . I learnt that very few people have the nerve to go against the grain and those come to be the people who find their own beautiful in the ugly. His present collection and his collection of 1971, La Collection Du Scandale inspired me to express through merchandises.
