WHAT IS IOT?

• Internet of Things

• Devices connected to the internet

• One of earliest device Coke machine

Page 3: Internet of things (IOT)

TECHNOLOGIES INCORPORATING IOT CAPABILITIES

• RFID-Small chip and an antenna

• Bluetooth low energy-Communicate via GHz ISM band

• LTE Advanced- High-speed communication specification for mobile networks

IOT NOW

• Advancements in Healthcare (Chips inserted)

• Warehouse Storage (Inventory Monitoring)

• Security and Safety (Reporting Cameras)

IOT SPECIFIC DEVICES

• Common household devices are moving into IOT products, great examples would be:

• Refrigerators • Light bulbs • Washing machines• Thermostats

WHERE IS IOT HEADED?

• IOT has been in the enterprise market, where manufacturers use it to monitor and control their machines to reduce costs and create efficiency.

• Now consumers are getting a taste of it, with product like FitBit, it collects data with its sensor and can give you feedback

IOT MADE EASY

• Simply, IOT is the concept of connecting any device to the internet, and or to each other.

• It’s a giant network of connected “things”• For example, your door lock is connected to the chip inside your

key, and when you open the door, the lights automatically turn on.

HOW DOES IOT AFFECT US?

• IOT can/will create major change in our daily living, possibly make everything we do more efficient.

• IOT can create more efficient and cost effective municipal services, enhance public transportation, reduce traffic congestions and keep citizens safe.

BIG DATA AND IOT WILL CREATE SMART CITIES

• Smart cities is the idea of developing data driven systems for transportation, waste management, law enforcement, and energy to make everything more efficient.

• Almost everything will be affected, from mapping out foot/bike paths to mapping energy use in the city.
