Strathclyde Business School – a great base to visit Glasgow & Scotland

The University of Strathclyde is located in the heart of Glasgow – one of the UK’s largest and most vibrant cities.

Glasgow has recently been voted the ‘friendliest city in the world’ and also one of the ‘top 10 cities in the world to visit’. It was named as a must visit destination by the New York Times and Wanderlust, confirming its reputation as one of the world’s top cities.

Our students tell us that Glasgow is a brilliant city to live in, and whether you enjoy shopping, eating out, fantastic nightlife, going to world class music and sporting events, visiting museums and art galleries or just taking a walk within one of the many parks, there is something for everyone in easy reach of the campus.

The city is consistently voted as the top place to shop in the UK outside London. It is a UNESCO City of Music, hosting more than 100 music events every week. There are also many festivals throughout the year including the Merchant City Festival, Celtic Connections, Glasgow Science Festival, International Jazz Festival, Glasgow Film Festival and the Glasgow International Comedy Festival to name but a few.

With Glasgow only a short journey away from the beautiful landscape of the Scottish Highlands, Strathclyde students are perfectly positioned to explore everything that Scotland has to offer fans of the great outdoors. Or you can visit Scotland’s historic castles and monuments or explore the thriving arts and culture scene of our diverse towns and cities.

Glasgow is also just a short flight from London and a great base from which to explore the rest of Scotland.

Collaborative programmes

SBS works closely with a number of international partners to create collaborative programmes that allow students to be admitted at an advanced entry point to our undergraduate degree. If you are a student from one of our partners then you may be able to join SBS in Year 3 and complete your final years of study in Glasgow. These study routes allow students to experience an academic and social life in two universities and two countries over the duration of only one degree and at a lower cost than completing two degrees separately. You will experience different study, learning and teaching environments and gain new academic perspectives. Such an experience is invaluable and the impact on career prospects is substantial.

There are also opportunities for Masters students to complete one year of their postgraduate studies at SBS and receive an MSc award on completion.

To find out if your university offers a collaborative programme with SBS please email [email protected]

English Language Preparation

Degree seeking students are required to meet the English Language requirements for the University, normally IELTS 6.5. If you are an international student aiming to study on an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at the University of Strathclyde, and you need to improve your English language level to meet the language conditions of your degree offer, you can study one of the ELT English language courses at the University of Strathclyde, without needing to re-take IELTS or another English language test.

A four week pre-sessional welcome and orientation course is offered over the summer and this provides good preparation prior to starting your academic programme.

In-Sessional Modules The English Language Teaching unit offers a range of In-Sessional English language support classes for students at Strathclyde whose first language is not English. These courses aim to help students improve the English they need both for studying and for everyday communication.
