    John Donaldson is an author and specialist publisher.He is a Visiting Fellow at the University of LeicesterManagement Centre. His books include Co-operativeManagement: A Philosophy for Business (co-authoredwith Dr Peter Davis: New Harmony Press, 1998). Hiswritings on business ethics include Business Ethics: AEuropean Casebook (Academic Press, 1992); and KeyIssues in Business Ethics (Academic Press, 1989). Healso writes on pay differentials and financial regulationand control. He has taught industrial relations,business ethics and financial regulation at businessschools. A former WEA tutor, his business andindustrial experience has been gained from working inserveral industries. He obtained his MA and Diplomafrom the University of Oxford in Philosophy, Politicsand Economics.

    Irene Fafaliou is a teaching fellow at the University ofPiraeus, Department of Economics, Greece. She isteaching Industrial Economics, Industrial Policy, andSpecific Issues of the Greek Economy and Industry. MsFafaliou is an official national researcher to TheEuropean Observatory for SMEs, European Networkfor SME Research. She has worked as a senior advisorwith a number of individual firms, industries, andpublic or semi-public organizations and associations.Irene holds a PhD in Economics from the University ofLeicester, UK, a post-graduate Diploma in ManpowerPlanning and Industrial Relations from the University ofManchester, Institute of Science & Technology(UMIST), UK, and a B.Sc. in Business Administrationfrom the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki,Greece. A number of her articles have been publishedin international journals, academic papers andinternational conferences proceedings.

    John Harvey, C.E.O. Co-op Atlantic, Canada. Raisedon a farm in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, Johnattended Agricultural College in Truro, Nova Scotia,and completed his BSc Agriculture degree at McGillUniversity in Montreal. Starting his career at Co-opAtlantic in Feed Sales, he developed his career furtherwith management positions at Scotburn Co-operativeServices Ltd and gained overseas experience workingin the area of Co-operative Development in theCaribbean before returning for a further five years atScotburn. In 1995 John accepted the position of VicePresident of the Food Division at Co-op Atlantic and in2002 accepted the appointment of CEO at Co-opAtlantic.

    Suparade Karalak. Suparade (Known as Yui) wentto Woldingham School in Surrey where she tookGCSEs and A levels before reading Physical Sciences atthe University College London in 1996. Yui went on toread International Management for the degree ofMaster of Sciences at Kings College, University ofLondon. She is currently a full time PhD studentattached to the Unit for Membership Basedorganizations in the Management Centre at theUniversity of Leicester. The focus of her research isproblems of co-operative management in the area ofrecruitment and selection.

    Mr Tan Kin Lian, Chief Executive Officer, NTUCIncome Insurance Cooperative Ltd, Singapore. Tan KinLian qualified at 27 years of age as a Fellow of theInstitute of Actuaries in 1975. He served as President ofthe Institue and presented many professional papers atregional actuarial conferences. He served as a boardmember of the International Cooperative and MutualInsurance Federation for 17 years, including five yearsas its Chairman (1992-1997). A member of the Councilof the Singapore National Cooperative Federation forten years, he has been its chairman since 1996.Honoured for his cooperative and community service,he has received the Singapore Public Service Medal. Hehas been for the past 25 years the CEO of NTUCIncome (a composite insurance cooperative) duringwhich time the organisations assets have grown fromS$40m in 1977 to S$9,100m in 2001, with over a millionpolicy holders.
