Kalasalingam School of Architecture (KSoA)

The Department of School of Architecture has organized an one day Case study trip 110 years Students Sheet Works Old landlord’s House in Needamangalam, Mannargudi, Thiruvarur District on 3rd August 2017. This case study was very helpful for the students to analyze about the Space planning, Circulation spaces, Site planning features, zoning, Technologies used, farming systems, cattle rearing, Poultries,User Analysis, climatic factors,construction techniques,Bio gas techniques etc. The students had also submitted a detailed report of the observed factors.

The students of School of Architecture visited on Auroville, Pondicherry from 19th August to 21st August 2017. They visited so many places in and around Auroville and Pondicherry including Auroville Bamboo Centre; Nandanam school; Solar kitchen; Pondicherry Church; Svaram in Auroville and Sadhana forest which is useful for their studies.

Industrial Visit

The students of School of Architecture visited the College of Architecture, Thiruvananthapuram from 19th August to 20th August 2017.

The students of School of Architecture visited the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, New Delhi on 23rd August 2017.

Architecture Awareness Programme attended by Faculty Members Prof. S.Pongomathi and Prof. K. Brindha have participated in an Architecture Awareness Programme on 17th August, 2017 organized by RADA Academy, Madurai.

Prof.T.Subramanian and our students have visited Codissia Hall, Coimbatore for “ICTACT Youth Summit-2017” on 23rd August 2017. Nine of our department students were shortlist for the Regional Pre-Final Stage of ICT Academy Youth Talk 2017 and participated.

Seshagiri Rao, Associate Professor, Department of Chemical E n g i n e e r i n g , N a t i o n a l I n s t i t u t e o f Technology,Warangal.

The Department of Biotechnology organized Guest Lecture on “Plant Molecular biology” on 9th August, 2017. The Resource Person for this Programme was Mr. K. Pruthvi Balachandra, Department of Plant Biology, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Sweden. Inaguration was followed by welcome speech by Dr.K.Sundar, Dean/SBCE. The technical session was introduced by Mr. Prithvi Balachander. The topic dealt with Plant Molecular biology enabled the students to have a clear idea about the recent research development in this field. The interactive session longed for an hour and inspired students to pursue higher degree in global universities.

The Resource Person for this Programme was Er.R.Panneer Selvam, General Mangar/ Projects at Indus, High Power Consultancies, Chennai. The resource person explained about the grid details of the Tamilnadu Transmission corporation limited. He explained about the operation of grid and power variation on a day. He also explained about the installed capacity in Tamilnadu and sustained demand on year to year chart and protection in power plant for electrical powers.

The Department of EEE organized a Guest Lecture on “Basic fundamentals of semiconductor and FPGA” on 5th August, 2017. The Resource Person for this Programme was Mr. A. The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized Workshop on “AutoDesk Fusion” on 19th August, 2017. The Resource Person for this Programme was Mr.P.Viju Antony , Executive Director, M/S Coretech Solutions Ernakulam. It starts with the inaugural address given by Dr. S. Rajesh. He welcomed our Resource person Mr. Viju Antony P , Executive Director, M/S Coretech Solutions. Then, Mr. P. Viju Antony started giving lecture to our students. He first explained about the Autodesk Fusion software, then he gave hands on training to our students by using the Fusion software installed in our CAD lab systems.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized One day National Level Workshop on Live Surgery of IC Engines "PETROL HEAD" on 19th August, 2017. This workshop aimed to provide the hands on training on assembling and dismantling of IC Engines. 10 single cylinder engines bought to our campus which required tools for troubleshooting. At the end of the workshop the students are familiar with troubleshooting of IC engines.

The School of Automotive and Mechanical Engineering conducted, preliminary round for Kalam award at Anandha Mat School, Rajapalayam on 5th August 2017. Totally 70 students participated in the event and presented their findings in the form of models and PPT. Dr. M Uthayakumar, Director – IR and Dr. C Bennet, Dy Dean – IQAC inaugurated the session. Subsequently the event went with model presentation and power point presentation chaired by the School representative and EWB KLU Chapter representatives. Selected candidates are invited to display / present there findings in the Final round of Science Day Program for Kalam Award.

The Department of Chemistry organized Guest Lecture on “Design, Synthesis, Characterization and Applications of 67/68 Galmydar” on 7th August, 2017. The Resource Person for this programme was Dr. S. Jothilingam, Scientist Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri. B.Sc. & M.Sc. Chemistry students of our Kalasalingam University students gained their knowledge in the field of monitoring breast cancer resistance protein using Galmydar (GA). The resource person, Dr. S. Jothilingam, delivered a lecture on the following topics in detail:

New Research Projects Received

The Department of Physics has received a New Financial Sanction of the research project titled “Fabrication and Systematic Investigation on Novel Nano Crystalline Quaternary Cu2ZnSnX4(X=S, Se, Te) Thin Films as Absorber Layer for Solar Cell Application by SILAR Method” under the guidance of Dr. Sultan AsathBahadur, Physics. Sanctioned of Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) at a total cost of Rs. 18,63,911/- (Rs. Eighteen Lakh Sixty Three Thousand Nine Hundred and Eleven Only).

Speech and Hearing Impaired persons (SHIP)

The Department of SHIP organized Workshop on “Career Awareness Orientation Program” on 21st August 2017. The Resource Person for this Programme was Mr.Charan; Ms. Pavithra and Mr. Lee, Enable India, Bangalore. The goal of the Career Awareness Orientation Program was to help students to reflect on their motivation to join KLU, the skills required for any job and decide on a plan to build skills required while focusing on their academic work as well.

KLU-NI Technology Innovation Centre

The KLU– NI Technology Innovation Centre organized One Credit Course on "Machine Vision Using LabVIEW" from 4th August to 6th August, 2017. The Respource Person for this Programme was Mr.Vasantha Kumar, Senior Applications Engineer, VI Solutions, Bangalore. This one credit course was covering topics from image processing and vision assistant. This course gave hands on experience with NI myRIO hardware and ELVIS boards.

KLU—30th Convacation Day Celebration The 30th convocation of Kalasalingam University was held on 19th August 2017 in which Eight Hundred and Ninety One (891) students of Thirteen B. Tech courses of the University, Three (3) students of two special B. Tech (SHIP - Speech and Hearing Impaired Person) courses, Seventy Three students of M. Tech courses, One Hundred and Twenty Three (123) students of Business Administration courses, Thirty Three (33) students of MCA, Fifty One (51) students of other Post Graduate courses and Thirty Three (33) Research Scholars were awarded graduation certificates. The chief guest of the programme was Ms. Vani Sheshadri, Vice President, Accenture. She delivered the convocation address.

Independence Day Celebration The Teaching and Non-Teaching staff members of KLU & Sister Institutions celebrated the 71st Independence Day function in the KLU sports ground on 15th August 2017 at 8.30 am. Dr. S. Saravanasankar, Vice Chancellor hoisted the flag and commanded the Independence Day parade. Dr. S. Saravanasankar delivered the Independence Day Address and promoted NCC cadets on this occasion.
