Dark walls work anywhere! In Sunny Isles Beach, FL (emphasis on SUNNY) where my interior design business is based, most residences have walls of windows and an abundance of natural light whose interiors tend look dull and flat when the sun pours in. Dark wall colors add needed character and contrast to bright rooms a shadow effect if you will, giving a space depth and perspective. I dress the room with furnishings on the light side in soft, tactile fabrics, and accessorize with metallics, glass, and mirrors for light and sparkle. An unexpected accent color brings the room to life. The result is a design scheme that is elegant and sophisticated, and most importantly - livable. Note: For the faint of heart, try a dark color on a single accent wall or on an architectural detail such as a fireplace, ceiling, or arch.

I’ve been inspired to use dark, moody colors on

walls along with a luxurious collection of textures.

Dark walls work anywhere! In Sunny Isles Beach, FL

(emphasis on SUNNY) where my interior design

business is based, most residences have walls of

windows and an abundance of natural light whose

interiors tend look dull and flat when the sun pours

in. Dark wall colors add needed character and

contrast to bright rooms – a shadow effect if you will,

giving a space depth and perspective.

I dress the room with furnishings on the light side in

soft, tactile fabrics, and accessorize with metallics,

glass, and mirrors for light and sparkle. An

unexpected accent color brings the room to life.

The result is a design scheme that is elegant and

sophisticated, and most importantly - livable.

Note: For the faint of heart, try a dark color on a

single accent wall or on an architectural detail such

as a fireplace, ceiling, or arch.
