He got through the first round of the contest and won a pre-release Ultra Book as well as a cash reward of US $1000 for his App was chosen amongst the top 50 Apps. In addition to the rewards, Febin John James has also obtained special status as an MSP which stands for Microsoft Student Partner which enables him to represent Microsoft in various institutions. He will be trained by Microsoft after which he shall receive MSDN subscription from Microsoft which would entitle him to access softwares worth lakhs for free of cost. Hosted by the Dept. of Hotel Management, the Annual Cake Mixing Ceremony was a grand success. The chief guest on the occasion was Executive Chef Girish, Ibis Hotel, Bangalore. The spirit of Christmas was personifi ed with different types of dry fruits and nuts being mixed together along Department of

M a n a g e m e n t Studies of TJC organized a mentoring session on ‘Challenges for Human Resources’ for MBA III Sem students with HR Specialization on Nov 10, 2012. The session focused on roles, industry expectations, competencies and challenges that young HR professionals are expected to face. The event was conducted by Mr. Aravind Warrier, HR Business Partner at Timken India Private Limited.

Ms. C. Padma took part in a National Level Conference on ‘Recent Trends, Challenges and Innovations in Management’ held from Nov 8, 2012 at Community Institute of Management Studies. In the conference, she also presented a paper titled ‘A Study on Sales Promotion towards Life Insurance Products in Rural Areas’.

The II & VIII Sem BHM students watched a movie on the life of JRD TATA on Dec 13, 2012. The objective of the screening was to create awareness on developing one’s own business and entrepreneurship skills. The screening was organized by Mr. Ravichander Reddy, BHM faculty.

National President Mr. G .K Shrivastava of ‘Express Hospitality’ launched the “Indian Housekeepers Club - Bangalore chapter” on October 11, 2012 at Chancery Pavilion Hotel, Bangalore. The event was attended by Mrs. Bandana Singh, BHM faculty of TJC. The agenda of the meet was to create awareness on cleanliness for the common man and expose everyone to the latest technological developments in the housekeeping arena.

MBA students from the T. John Group of Institutions c e l e b r a t e d K a n n a d a Rajyotsava on Nov 28, 2012 at the T. John College Campus. The programme commenced with fl ag hoisting by the Chief Guests Mr. Pundalika Halambi, President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat and Prof. Mallaya, Vice President of Vokkaliga Sangha, Karnataka. The chief guests addressed the students and enlightened them with inputs on how to preserve language and culture amidst the increasing cosmopolitan status of Bangalore and Karnataka. Chairman Dr. Thomas P John and Campus Director P Sambasivan also addressed the audience. The program concluded with honoring all the dignitaries and presenting them with mementos.

A guest lecture was arranged on Nov 3, 2012 for the students of I Sem MBA. The students were addressed by Prof. Dr. Doreswamy AG summarizing an earlier talk delivered by Mr. R. Gopalakrishnan, Executive Director of Tata Sons, where he had majorly focused on the overall personality development of individuals. He emphasized on grass root level experience by quoting his own example. He gave inputs on how to be in a win-win situation with fairness in the corporate fi eld. It was quite an encouraging session for each and every participant.

DEPARTMENT OF BIOSCIENCES

The Bioscience Department represented by Mrs. Purnima G.S along with selected students from I Sem M.Sc Biotechnology and Biochemistry took part in the 5th Annual Karnataka Science and Technology Academy (KSTA) Conference held in Dayanand Sagar Institution from Dec 19-20, 2012. The conference provided a platform for students, academicians, offi cials and the entire scientifi c community from diverse disciplines to debate and deliberate on social change that have been brought about by science and technology.

A guest lecture for the students of Master’s program was organized on Oct 12, 2012 on the topic ‘Implementation of SAS in Clinical Research’. The resource persons were Mr. Rajesh and Mr. Krishna Kumar from Epoch Research Institute, Bangalore. Students learned about the overview of SAS, its importance and how it is implemented in clinical research.

Dr. Panchali attended a NAAC conference titled ‘Indian Higher Education in the 21st Century-Five Decades Ahead: Challenges and Prospects’ organised by the IQAC in Kristu Jayanti College from Nov 29-30, 2012.

Students of II Sem BA (JEP) were shown India’s offi cial entry to the Oscars this year – Barfi on Dec 17, 2012. The movie screening was done under the guidance of Ms. Nagarathna M. L, Psychology Lecturer of TJC. The movie is based on a psychological disorder, popularly known as Autism. The main motive behind screening the movie was to make the students aware of the symptoms of Autism

Natural Remedies deals with three types of products namely Animal health care product, Human health care product and Phyto compounds. The laboratories are equipped with state of the art technology and instruments like HPLC, HPTLC, GLC and UV Spectrophotometer. The students were also shown the tool and techniques used in the laboratories

• Students of M.Sc Biotechnology and Biochemistry I Sem visited Visveswaraya Industrial Technology Museum on Oct 31, 2012. Students were shown a science show, the biotech revolution gallery, space gallery, mechanic’s gallery and science fun zone. Students participated in the bio-quiz which was conducted with the aid of technology. They also visited ‘Taramandal’, the mini planetarium at the museum.

Emma (2009) is a four-part BBC television drama serial adaptation based on Jane Austen’s novel Emma (1815). The novel is a comedy of self-deceit and self-discovery. It focusses on Emma as a skilled matchmaker who attempts to arrange marriage alliances of friends and acquaintances but her interference has an adverse effect when she makes Harriet Smith as her protégé. The episodes of the television drama serial were written by the acclaimed writer of BBC costume drama Sandy Welch and they were directed by Jim O’ Hanlon. In this serial, Romola Garai played the role of Emma Woodhouse, Jonny Lee Miller played the role of her friend Mr. Knightley and Michael Gambon played the role of Emma Woodhouse’s father, Mr. Woodhouse. It was screened for the students of II Sem BA (JEP) on Dec 10, 2012 by Dr. Panchali Mukherjee. The novel Emma is in their Optional English course. The response of the students was good and they enjoyed watching it.

As part of familiarizing the students and faculty on the Android platform, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering held a One Day Workshop on ‘Android App Development’ in association with Nextify, Hosur. The workshop was attended by V Sem students and faculty members. The workshop was kicked off by instructors Mr. Avinash, Mr. Raghu and Mr. Naresh with an introductory session about the Android platform in general, followed by hands-on experience of application development.

Mr. Sujay S, Ms. Manjiri Singh and Ms. Hemalatha C of VII Sem Computer Science and Engineering, TJIT attended a three day workshop on Gaming at iCat College of Arts & Design, Bangalore. The workshop on ‘How To Create Games?’ was held on Nov 3, 2012 and started off with a brief overview of creation of games. It had a theoretical session in which the instructors showed demos of various gaming software. This was followed by a hands-on session in which the participants created a small game. The workshop gave the students an overview of how to create games and also provided an insight into current industry standards and best practices.

people and is a Govt. of Karnataka undertaking. The staff and students were received by Mr. Krishnappa at the plant. He explained the company’s business portfolio which includes soaps, sandal oil, sandal powder, perfumes and incense sticks. This was followed by a visit to the manufacturing plant where the attendees were shown the steps that go into the making of soaps and other products. A team of seven students from TJIT participated in the VTU 15th Inter Collegiate Athletic Meet held at Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur from Nov 1-4, 2012. 123 Colleges under VTU across Karnataka participated in the event. TJCP COMES SECOND IN RGUHS NETBALL TOURNAMENT-2012TJCP organized RGUHS Netball Tournament on Nov 20, 2012. Students of TJCP secured the runners-up position in this tournament. Five students from the team were selected to represent RGUHS Netball team at the All India Netball Tournament to be held in Feb 2013. Management, Principal and staff congratulated the team.

Children’s Day & Childhood Diabetes Day 2012 program was conducted by the Department of Pediatric Nursing on Nov 17, 2012 at the Govt. primary school, Chikkakamanahalli. Health education was given to the children regarding personal hygiene, prevention of accidents and childhood diabetes and its prevention. Small group activities and cultural program was also arranged for the children. Nearly 800 children participated in the event. The program was led by Ms. Ramalakshmi, Ms. Uma Maheshwari, Ms. Smita Mathew and Ms. Jisha Ajo.
