1 October - December, 2011 Quarterly Newsletter Message from the Campus Director While knocking at the doors of a bright New Year 2012, we proudly look back at an eventful 2011 during which we scaled newer heights and achieved many a milestone. With flips and flops the past year has strengthened our resolve. We have given our best efforts with which we look forward for further challenges and march ahead towards the pursuit of excellence in imparting world class education to our students. In this year students have to sort out their priorities and continue to strive with goal oriented behaviour in order to achieve their set goals within the given time frame. I wish all the staff and students of T. John Group of Institutions a very Happy New Year and aim for bringing many laurels! While knocking at the doors of a bright New Year 2012, we proudly look back at an eventful 2011 during which we scaled newer heights and achieved many a milestone. With flips and flops the past year has strengthened our resolve. We have given our best efforts with which we look forward for further challenges and march ahead towards the pursuit of excellence in imparting world class education to our students. In this year students have to sort out their priorities and continue to strive with goal oriented behaviour in order to achieve their set goals within the given time frame.

Guest lecture by Mr. K. Dinesh

Mr. K Dinesh, Co-Founder and former Member of Board of Infosys Technolo-gies Ltd. addressed all the manage-ment students and faculty of T. John Group of Institutions on November 2, 2011. He provided insights on the leadership/innovation journey of Infosys and his own personal experi-ence from his first job with a monthly take home of Rs. 80 per month to the present times of being a successful leader in a world class organization.

He emphasized on the importance of effective leadership and stressed on the fact that every individual is capa-ble of innovating something new and

it is not confined to the select few. Mr. Dinesh related all the above points with the examples taken from Infosys and his professional life. He said that like minded people should come to-gether to start a business rather than same minded which brings in more innovative ideas.

Scientia Fiesta 2011

TJCP organized a state level Science Exhibition ‘Scientia Fiesta 2011’ from December 7-8, 2011. The event was inaugurated by Justice N. Santhosh Hegde, former Chief of Lokayukta, Karnataka. A competition on scientific models was held in which more than 44 schools and colleges participated. More than 3470 students including teachers attended the programme. Winners were awarded with cash prizes.

Children’s Day Celebrations 2011

Students from the Department of Pediatric Nursing celebrated Children’s Day on November 12, 2011. The venue was Holy Spirit Orphanage Home. Students

engaged themselves in a day of fun with the children who ac-tively participated in the games that were held. The programme was coordinated by Ms. Uma Maheswari, Ms. Rakhy and other faculties.

Newborn Week 2011

Students from the Department of Pe-diatric Nursing and OBG organized Newborn Week on November 2, 2011 at Begur village and PHC. The program was aimed at creating awareness on prevention of newborn illnesses and reducing neonatal mor-bidity and mortality rate. The program was lead by Ms. G T Sartaj Fatima (OBG Dept), Ms. Uma Maheswari

(Pediatric Dept), Ms. Sugirtha and other faculties.

Visit by Dignitaries

Dr. Ahmed Berwari, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq and Prof. Dr. Nadhim Sulaiman Abdulaziz, Cultural Counselor, Embassy of Iraq visited T. John College of Pharmacy on October 12, 2011 to interact with students from Iraq studying in various colleges under Bangalore University and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka.

Guest Lecture

Mrs. Sangita Goyal, Associate Scientific Manager, Biocon visited TJCP on October 22, 2011 to deliver a talk on ‘Formulation of Injectable Dosage Forms’. B.Sc Biotechnology students attended the program.

Fresher’s Party

Fresher’s party was organized by final year students to welcome I B.Pharm batch on Dec 16, 2011 at Country Club, Bannerghatta Road.

Industrial Visit

I B.Pharm students went for an industrial visit to Mysore on November 12, 2011.

World Mental Health Day

On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, Department of Psychiatric Nursing of TJCN organized a Psychiatric Exhibi-tion ‘GroBer StoB’ from October 10-12, 2011. Chief Guests Dr. Radha S. Mur-thy, Founder and Managing trustee of Nightingales Medical Trust, Bangalore

and Dr. George Easaw, Principal, T. John College delivered talks on the vari-ous aspects of mental health. They also unveiled the year’s theme – ‘The Great Push: Investing in Mental Health’.Students had put up psychiatric exhibi-tion halls employing both audio and vi-sual medium to showcase and spread awareness on the many aspects and concepts of mental health and mental illnesses. There were charts and paint-ings, mime, skits, mock therapy rooms and documentary sessions. The exhi-bition was visited by students not just from TJC but also from other institutions as well and its success speaks volumes about the effort put in by the students and faculty from the Department of Psy-chiatric Nursing.

World AIDS Day 2011

On the occasion of World AIDS Day, Medical and Surgical Departments of TJCN joined hands to fight against the stigma and discrimination sur-rounding AIDS. They visited Sneha-daan on Sarjapur Road, Bangalore on December 1, 2011 and arranged various awareness programs. Finan-cial support was also provided. A blood donation camp was conduct-ed by Lottery Club in association with Snehadaan in which TJCN students took part. The students also offered a day’s meal to all the small kids at the centre. This was followed by a cul-tural fest organized by the students. The event was coordinated by Mrs. Gladish G George (HOD of Medi-cal and Surgical Department, TJCN) along with other faculties.

NSS Eye Care Camp

The NSS Unit of TJC with its committed staff and student volunteers organized an Eye Care Camp in association with Narayana Netralaya on November 17, 2011 for the residents of Subash-nagar village, Begur, Bangalore. T. John & Narayana Netralaya together conducted free check-up, distributed medicines and conducted eye surgeries for the needy.300 villagers were examined, 57 people were advised surgery and 150 people were advised optical power glasses. While the average cost of optical power glasses is anywhere between Rs. 600-1500, they were given for Rs. 200 at the camp. 20 of the villagers who needed immediate surgery were admitted to the hospital to undergo surgery. These 20 patients were operated upon on November 18, 2011 and given free post operative care. The eye care camp at Subashnagar by TJC NSS Unit was a highly successful and commendable event. It also garnered many donors who willingly came forward to contribute financially and have already expressed their interest in doing so again when a similar event is organised in the coming months.

E.T.I Training for NSS Program Officers

E.T.I training for NSS program officers was held from December 12-17, 2011 at Dharwad. 26 program officers from different colleges under Bangalore University attended the training at the UAS Campus in Dharwad. Dr. Sundar

World Activity Record-War on Diabe-tes

Medical and Surgical Dept. of TJCN collaborated to set a new World Activity Record declaring ‘War on Diabetes’ on November 14, 2011. The new world record was set in Bangalore when a whopping 3,573 people were screened for diabetes. The event was organized with the aim of creating awareness about diabetes in line with ‘World Diabetes Day’ theme of ‘Act on Diabetes Now’. The event was guided by Mrs. Gladish G George and Mr. Saju John.

Spreading Awareness About Diabetes

In connection with ‘World Diabetes Day’, Medical & Surgical Departments of T. John College of nursing organized an awareness program on diabetes and its efficient management among the residents of Suraksha Apartment, Bangalore. The event organized on November 27, 2011 was guided by Mrs. Gladish G George and co-coordinated by Mr. Saju and Ms. Dharshana along with students of I & II Year M.Sc Nursing and PB B.Sc Nursing.

Raj Urs (BU-NSS coordinator), Dr. Somappa Megeri (Director of UAS, Dharwad) and NSS coordinator from Dharwad were the main conveners of the camp.The training focused on the successful execution of NSS activities, conducting NSS camps and personality develop-ment. The key role of a program officer is to train NSS student volunteers to be emerging leaders of tomorrow. The pro-gramme officer’s role of a good mentor and guide was redefined.

Christmas Day Celebrations

TJC organized Christmas Day cel-ebrations on De-cember 14, 2011 in its campus. Hon-ourable Chairman, Principals of TJC and TIMS, Vice Prin-cipal, faculty mem-bers and students attended the pro-gram. The event started with TJC students singing carols. This was followed by a skit presented by BHM students. A dance was also presented by the MCA students. School children from a Government school in Gottigere were invited to be part of the proceedings. The children were taken on a tour of the college and showered with Christmas gifts by Santa Claus.

Training Sessions & Seminars

• A seminar on ‘Development of IT skills’ was conducted for students of III and V MCA by Mr. Ranjeet Kumar and Ms. Vinutha on October 19, 2011

• A seminar on ‘Experience in Building and Managing High Performance Teams’ was conducted for MCA students by Mr. Srihari Bhat on October 20, 2011

• A training session on ‘Ethical Hacking’ was organized for MCA students by Mandamus Info Knowledge on November 21, 2011

• A training session on ‘Communication Skills’ was organized for MCA students by People Care Business Solutions to make the students aware as to where they stand as far as their communication skills are concerned and the areas that they need to improve on.

Placement Programs

• Final year MCA and BCA students attended a campus recruitment drive conducted by UST Global at Kristu Jayanti College. Pranit of V MCA and Kunal of V BCA got selected as Software Engineers

• Students of V MCA attended a campus recruitment drive in TJIT by Syntel on November 12, 2011

• Students of V BCA attended a campus recruitment drive in T. John Institution premises conducted by Infosys Technologies on December 19.

Industrial Visit

Advanced Training at Hotel Crown Plaza

Staff of BHM attended a week long advanced training program at the Hotel Crown Plaza, Bangalore from November 25, 2011. The week long training for the staff was an effort by the department to keep its staff abreast with the current trends in the industry. It was done to upgrade the skill sets of the staff which will in turn impact the students and equip them to be industry ready.The team underwent an induction program conducted by the HR Director Mr. Muthu Shivan. It started with an insight into the IHG Group and their vision, expansion plans and concluded with a tour of the property. In the following days, the team undertook sessions in housekeeping services, F&B services and the cooking process at the respective departments of the hotel. Step to improving quality and standards were also discussed very elaborately with the top management of the hotel.The training was vital for faculty members as it gave them an insight on the operational and practical problems that the hotel is facing which could be imparted to the students keeping in mind their bright future.

Campus Recruitment by Alpine Breweries

Mr. Rajesh Naik, HR Manager of Alpine Breweries conducted a campus recruitment drive on December 13,

• Fresher’s Day was celebrated for I MCA students on November 26, 2011. Campus Director Mr. Sambasivam, Vice Principal Ms. Nilanjana Basu from TJC, facul-ties and all MCA students attend-ed the function.

• Infosys Campus; Mysore – V and III MCA students visited Infosys campus; Mysore on October 15, 2011 to study corporate software environment in an IT giant. Ms. Parimala and Mr. Govindaraj accompanied the students on the trip.

• Mr. Govindaraj attended a National Conference on ‘Data Mining, Artificial

Campus Recruitment by ITC Windsor

Ms. Devika, Training Manager and Mr. Nandan, HR Manager of ITC Windsor, Bangalore conducted a campus recruitment drive on December 15, 2011. They did a brief presentation on ITC Windsor, its work ethics and its history which was then followed by one on one interview with the applicants.

Cake Mixing Ceremony

Annual Cake Mixing Ceremony was organized by the Department of Hotel Management, TJC along with Apprite Club on November 30, 2011. It was followed by the traditional Fruit Mixing and Soaking concept. In the Christmas season, prior to making cakes most of the dry fruits are soaked in spirits like rum, brandy and red wine to enhance their flavors. Dr. T. John, Chairman of T. John Group of Institutions, P Sambasivam, Campus Director, Principal of TJC and Executives from Hotel Crown Plaza started the proceedings. The ceremony was also graced by the presence of Managers and Hotel Executives from ITC Windsor, The Leela Palace, Royal Meenakshi Mall and The Spar Group.

• B.Sc (FAD) faculties Ms. Hemalatha and Ms. Thejaswini attended a workshop on ‘Terracota’ conducted by the Government of India – Cottage Industry Emporium from November 09-26, 2011. The program focused on the designing aspects of terracotta jewelry and other fashionable items

Visits

• B.Sc (FAD) IV and VI Sem students along with faculties Ms. Hemalatha and Ms. Thejaswini conducted a market survey at Bangalore Central and Garuda Mall on December 10, 2011. Students took note of the types and varieties of window display themes, visual merchandising and Christmas decorations

• B.Sc (FAD) II, IV and VI Sem students along with faculties Ms.

Movie Screenings

• The movie, Life is Beautiful was screened for II Sem BA students on December 15, 2011. The movie was screened as a part of contextual study as Sem II Gen-eral English paper includes war literature. The movie depicts pre WWII Germany when the affairs of the state were peaceful and Jews lived in harmony alongside other communities. The movie moves on to show the commencement of the war and the gradual change of perspective towards the Jews who suffered discrimination everywhere and thousands were put to the gas chambers. The plot focuses on a jolly father who succeeds to save his child from the untimely death

Hemalatha, Ms. Thejaswini and Mr. Rajesh visited ‘Fabricana - Silk Exhibition’, held at Palace Grounds on December 15, 2011. The students were exposed to different varieties of silk, pricing strategy adopted by the manufacturers and the sellers as well as the steps adopted for marketing of different garments

• B.Sc (FAD) III Sem students in their subject (Fashion Art Design) and V Sem Students (in Fashion Business Management) achieved 100% results in the Bangalore University exams. These subjects are under the aegis of Ms. Hemalatha

• B.Sc (FAD) V Sem students in their subjects (Garment Surface Orna-mentation & Apparel Production) achieved 100% results in the Ban-galore University exams. These subjects are under the aegis of Ms. Thejaswini

as well as from losing hope for a better tomorrow. This critically ac-claimed film spreads the message that life is worth living no matter how much of hardship one faces.

• The movie, A Bright Star, was screened for II Sem B.A students on December 22, 2011. The screening was done so as to provide the students an insight into the life of famous poet ‘John Keats’ whose verse ‘Ode to a Nightingale’ forms a part of the syllabus for the current semester. The session was co-ordinated by Ms. Panchali Mukherjee from the Department of Languages, TJC. The film focuses on the last three years of English romantic poet John Keats life and his romantic relationship

with Fanny Brawne. It stars Ben Whishaw as John Keats and Abbie Cornish as Fanny Brawne. The film is a British, Australian and French co-production directed by Jane Campion. It is inspired by a biography of John Keats by Andrew Motion and the title of the film refers to a sonnet written by John Keats “Bright star, would I were stedfast as thou art” which he wrote when he was with Fanny Brawne.

BA (JEP) students participated in Mind-seek Psychology Fest held at Surana College, Bangalore on Dec 2011. Psychology departments from different colleges took part in the myriad com-petitions that not only challenged one’s talent but also one’s mind. BA students also attended a seminar on ‘Psycho-analysis’ by Dr. M.Basavanna former Professor of Psychology, Sri Venketesh-wara University, Tirupati. There were various other competitions like Battle of Brains (Psychology quiz), Passion play (street Play emphasised on a psycholog-ical theme), Best Psychologist (Profes-sional skills), Foodie Fix (cooking with-out fire), Feather on a cap (Dumbster Acts), Transliterate (Epigrahic), Sneak Preview (Documentary Review), Deco-rate Yourself (T-shirt and face painting), Cul-Quake (Cultural Varieties).

VI Sem BA (JEP) students Ridalin Laloo & Pradeep Kumar did their internship in December, 2011 in wellknown me-dia organization Deccan Herald & The Indian Express respectively. During the internship, they lived a life of a journal-ist. These two journalists’ in the making learned both reporting & editing.

Industrial Visit to Toyota Kirloskar Motors

Management department of TJC orga-nized an industrial visit on December 7, 2011 for III Sem MBA students to the Toyota Kirloskar manufacturing facility in Bidadi, Karnataka. Toyota, a name synonymous with ground breaking tech-nological innovations and excellence started its operations at the Bidadi plant in the year 1997. Spread across 432 acres, the facility has 8000 workers. Management students and staff were received at the plant by Mr. Vinod Ku-mar who led them to the Toyota Hall where a corporate video was screened providing a glimpse into the world of Toyota. This was followed by a visit to the manufacturing plant where the at-tendees were shown the steps that go into the making of a car, the state of the art technologies and machines that are used in the process and the entire management of the whole car making process as well as safety of employees. Management faculties Mr. Muralidhar Reddy, Mr. Anand Ganiger and Mrs. Lalitha Sathish accompanied the stu-dents on this visit.

Address by Honorable Chairman Dr. Thomas P. John

Dr. Thomas P. John, Chairman of T. John Group of Institutes spoke to MBA III Se-mester students on entrepreneurship on November 28, 2011. His talk focused on his own experience as a entrepre-neur and the factors that influenced him to think big and aim for higher goals. He inspired the students to do more out of box thinking in order to develop and nurture their entrepreneurship skills.

Karnataka Rajyothsava Celebrations

MBA students of TJC organized the first ever celebrations of Karnataka Rajyo-thsava on November 26, 2011 in the campus. The program started with the

state flag hosting ceremony and was followed by a puja to Mata Bhvanesh-wari. The honorable Chief Guests for the day was Shri Agni Shreedhar, Chief Editor of Agni newspaper and a noted film producer and Dr. Yellappa, Prof. in Kannada and a distinguished poet. Shri Agni Shreedhar in his address pro-posed tolerance for all languages and a harmonious co-existence with people of all languages. Guests also expressed their passion and love towards Karnata-ka and delved on the rich culture of the state. The program was organized with the help of faculty members Mr. Anand and Mr. Muralidhar Reddy from Man-agement department, Mr. Sudheendra from TJIT and Prof. Sriram from TJBS. The coordinators for the program were Mr. Chinni Sreedhara and Mr. Govinda Kumar from Department of Physical Ed-ucation & Sports.

New Appointment

Dr. Mahesh T R has been appointed as the HOD of Dept. of CSE & ISE at TJIT. He re-ceived his Ph.D (Com-puter Science) from the department of Computer Science, University of Allahabad. He has a decade of ex-perience in academics and has pub-lished several articles in National/In-ternational journals apart from being invited to impart lectures on emerging technologies at various sponsored faculty development programs. He is a recognized supervisor from Anna University of Technology, Coim-batore. His area of interests includes data mining, web usage mining and networking.

Workshop

Mr. Srinivasa H.P from Dept. of Com-puter Science, TJIT attended a one-day workshop on Storage Area Net-works at EMC. EMC is a recognized leader in providing storage hardware solutions that promote data recovery and improve cloud computing.

Training

Students from TJIT underwent a two day training under the banner ‘Young Tech Leadership Program’ organized by the Shruth & Smith Foundation held at PESIT Auditorium, Bangalore from November 4-6. The program was to train a selected group of 200 engineering students of VTU, Banga-lore region on entrepreneurship, ru-ral progress, education management and social leadership.

Guest Lecture

Dr. Murthy gave a talk on ‘Micro-electronics, MEMS and Nanotechnol-ogy’ in the department of ECE/TCE on November 30, 2011. Students of M.Tech, MCA and faculty from the department of ECE /TCE attended the lecture.An expert in the areas of Lithography, Plasma Processes, Thin Film Processes and Small Geometry Definitions, Dr. Murthy has served in organizations like T.I.F.R, Semiconductor Complex and S.G.S. Thomson. Currently he is serving as the Chief Operations Of-ficer, Centre for Nano Science and Engineering at IISC, Bangalore.

Young Tech Leadership Program

Sourabh Cheni, a final year student of Electronics and Communication was one of the select few to be invited to participate in the ‘Young Tech Lead-ership Program’, a two day workshop organized jointly by VTU and Shruth & Smith Foundation from November 4-5, 2011. The workshop included training sessions in the areas of en-trepreneurship, social leadership, ru-ral progress and education manage-ment.

Seminar on Career Path

Seminar on career path was con-ducted by Mr. Ravi Venkatraman, Manager & Corporate Trainer on Oct 12, 2011 to guide the students on the right career path by acquaint-ing them with their own strengths and weaknesses with the help of career building knowledge, SWOT analysis and job options. The program helped the students to concentrate on their strengths and to make use of it so as to build their future in a better way.

Skill Set Development Program

TIMS conducted ‘Skill Set Develop-ment Program’ for Management stu-dents by Mr. Sethumadhavan on Nov 4, 2011. The main objective of con-ducting this seminar was to acquire required skills in a particular branch. There are several types of skills in the educational field; an opportunity for the students to procure knowledge on skill set development. Mr. Sethumad-havan explained the gap between the skill set required by the industry and the current level of skill set available with the management students.

Psychometric Test

As part of a special initiative, TIMS conducted a Psychometric Test for the Management Students. Psychomet-ric Test was conducted by Ms. Eliza Ashok with a vision of developing the

required competencies needed to be a successful HR and also to provide practical hands-on experience on stat-utory and core HR issues to those who are not experienced but wish to jump into the HR foray.Psychometric test is conducted to know the mental ability of an individ-ual. This program helped the students to know their strengths and weak-nesses and work towards becoming mentally stronger. The next step is for the students to visit the consultant and discuss their test results.

Training on Retailing & Sales

Training on retailing was organized by Prof. Sunil B. Rao, HOD TIMS on Nov 18, 2011 on ‘Retail Manage-ment’. The training on retailing fo-cused on the selling and negotiation abilities and how to use different tools for selling effectively. Retailing has huge scope in the field of manage-ment and this session was aimed at helping the students to have a better knowledge of the career options that lay in front of them. The program in-volved students participation in the form of role play.

Students of TJBS presented a brief on Euro Crisis, a seminar conducted by TJC on December 10, 2011. The sem-inar focussed on the various facets of the euro crisis and its impact on the world economy.

Campus Drive

A campus drive by Infosys Technolo-gies and BPO for the students of B.A, B.Com, B.Sc, BBM and BCA was conducted at TJGI campus on No-vember 19, 2011. This event was

coordinated by Mr Santhosh Kumar. 610 students from 19 colleges across Bangalore attended the recruitment program.

RGUHS Inter Zone Table Tennis Men & Women Competitions

T. John College of Pharmacy hosted RGUHS Inter Zone Table Tennis Men & Women Competitions cum Selec-tion and Staff Competitions from October 3-4, 2011. A total of 220

participants hailing from colleges across participated in the tourna-ment (16 teams from four zones). TJCP provided accommodation, food and transportation facilities to all the participants and team managers. Competitions were conducted under the supervision of registered referees from the Karnataka Table Tennis As-sociation.Dr. Thomas P John, Chairman of T. John Group distributed the trophies and certificates to the winners. WG Cdr (Rtd) P Sambasivam and Dr. Vi-nit Chandy were also present at the prize distribution ceremony.Dr. Thomas P John also presented a cheque to T. John College of Pharma-cy Football team for winning RGUHS Football Championship 2011-12.

Outbound for TJCN

Department of Physical Education & Sports conducted an outbound activ-ity for the students of T. John College of Nursing on October 13, 2011 at Chitradurga Fort. Mr. Chinni Sreed-hara, Physical Education Director, T. John Group of Institutions accompa-nied 25 students for the activity.Activities included trekking and rock climbing. Mr. Jyothi Raja also known as Kothi Raja (Trainer) demonstrated the technical skills of rock climbing to the students. He conducted beginner classes for all the students so that they could learn the art of rock climbing and also share their skills with others.Post lunch, subject related games were conducted. At the end of the ses-sion Mr. Chinni Sreedhdara briefed the students on the various lessons learned from the day’s activities.A special thanks to Sri. Somashek-arappa, Director of Physical Educa-tion from Oxford College, Mr. Kop-pad, Physical Education Director from SDMDC, Dharward, Mr. Jyothi Raj and his team who were present at the venue to guide, train and mentor the students.

PMI Seminar

PMI (Project Management Institute) Bangalore Chapter under their ini-tiative of PMI Primer had invited T. John Institute of Management and Sci-ence for a seminar on Project Man-agement 3rd Annual Session of PM Primer on November 19, 2011. Prof. Sunil B Rao, HOD, TIMS, accompa-nied 20 selected MBA students to the seminar. The seminar was a worthy platform for interaction and network-ing with some of the pioneers in the field of Project Management in India. A handbook on Project Management that provides insights into the applica-tion of projects was given to all the faculty and students.

Training on ‘Campus Interview & Communication Development’

Prof. Sunil B Rao, HOD, TIMS, con-ducted a program in ‘campus inter-view and communication develop-ment’ on DEC 20, 2011. The session was presided over by Ms. Shreevi-dya, an expert HR consultant from Bangalore. The training was aimed to help students to develop their commu-nication skills and other etiquettes so that they are well prepared to attend campus interviews with confidence. The program also focused on skill de-velopment and personality develop-ment.

TJCN Students at RGUHS Ball Bad-minton Trials

T. John College of Nursing’s (TJCN) Ball Badminton team for both men & women participated in Rajiv Gan-dhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) inter-collegiate single zone cum selection trials for the Ball Bad-minton Championship. This event was held at JJM Medical College, Dava-nagere, Karnataka from October 17-18, 2011.

Both men and women’s teams reached the semi-finals of the event in their very first attempt at the university level tournament. It was a notable accom-plishment.At the Ball Badminton selection trails four students (2 from men & 2 from women’s team) from TJCN got se-lected for the RGUHS University Team and they will be taking part in the All

India Universities Championship to be held at Mangalore University, Kar-nataka. The selected members are:

Introductory Yoga Classes Conduct-ed in TJC

Dept. of Physical Education & Sports conducted Free Yoga Training Class-es for the faculty members of T. John College from November 29-30, 2011. 30 members took part in the two day sessions aimed at practicing simple yoga to bring down stress and strain associated with everyday life.

Dr. P. Chidananda, an international yoga performer conducted the class-es for the teachers. Participants got

to learn Yoga Asanas, Pranayama and Mudras. Dr. George Easaw (Principal) and Dr. Nilanjana Basu (Vice Principal) also took part in the event. Ms. Mohini Bhat & Ms. Usha Roghotham (TJC Faculty) shared their experience and said that yoga helps in many ways in the eradication of diseases. To conclude the 2 day event, Mr. Chinni Sreedhara (Director of Physi-cal Education Dept.) and Mr. Go-vinda Kumar (Assistant Director of Physical Education Dept.) thanked the TJGI management for arranging the programme which was appreciated by all.

RGUHS Athletic Meet 2010 - 2011

Students of T. John College of Nursing (TJCN) participated in RGUHS 13th Annual Athletic Meet from Novem-ber 11 - 15, 2011 at Basaveshwara Medical College, Chitradurga. 70 colleges with 600 participants took part in this athletic event. Ms. Athira P. R (B.Sc II Yr Nursing)

competed in the event of 5 km walk and secured 2nd place out of 47 athletes winning the silver medal. 8 students of TJCN secured fourth place and 4 students secured fifth pLace at the meet.
