INSTRUMENTATION AND PROCESS CONTROL INSTRUMENTATION AND PROCESS CONTROL TRAINING SYSTEM Series 3530 OVERALL DESCRIPTION The Lab-Volt Instrumentation and Process Control Training System introduces students to process instruments and controls. The use of modern equipment coupled with a complete training program helps students to learn and retain the theoretical and practical knowledge that is mandatory to work in the process control industry. To maximize the educational efficiency of the system, the teaching material covers the industry standards for maintenance concurrently with the main training objectives. The modularity of the system allows the instructor to select the equipment as a function of the training objectives. Several configurations are possible for a single workstation, and adding optional equipment can increase the number of these configurations. Workstations can be combined to form complex process loops. Each additional workstation requires a controller or a PLC to be fully functional. Basic packages and options for the instrumentation and process workstations can be selected using the chart below: 85315-00 Rev. INSTRUMENTATION AND PROCESS CONTROL TRAINING SYSTEM

Series 3530

OVERALL DESCRIPTIONThe Lab-Volt Instrumentation and Process Control Training System introduces students to process instruments and controls.

Basic packages and options for the instrumentation and process workstations can be selected using the chart below:

Features• Industrial grade components.

• Clear PVC piping.

• The system modularity allows a great variety of configurations.

• The two-sided workstation allows two student groups to work simultaneously.

Industrial Processes• Measure process variables such as pressure,

flow, level, temperature, pH, and conductivity.

• Create complex processes by adding optional components.

• Create first and second order processes (interacting and non-interacting).

Industrial Smart Transmitters and Detectors• Differential pressure transmitters.

• Flow transmitters using magnetic, vortex, Coriolis, and turbine flowmeters.

• Level transmitters using ultrasonic, radar, guided radar, vibrating fork, float switch, and conductive sensors.

• Temperature transmitters using J-Type Thermocouple and RTD sensors.

• Analytic transmitters using pH and conductivity sensors.

Variety of Flow Elements• Venturi, orifice plate, and Pitot tube.

Variety of Final Elements• Variable speed drive, control valves

with a digital controller or a pneumatic positioner, solenoid valve, heating/cooling unit, and metering pumps.

Industrial PID Controllers• Use and configure industrial dual controllers

such as a Foxboro 762 or a Honeywell controller UDC 3500.

PLC Control and Network Communications• Explore the different types of network communications used in

the industry such as Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, Hart, Foundation FieldBus, and ModBus.

• Use one of the IEC 1131 languages to program the PLC.

Loop Tuning• Tune process control loops using different methods.

• Adjust the PID parameters of a controller to achieve cascade, feed forward, split range, and ratio process control.

Calibration• Calibrate and configure conventional or smart transmitters.

Operator Panel and SCADA System• Develop operator interfaces to control and

monitor processes via a 10-inch touch screen terminal.

• Use and develop operator interfaces for SCADA software such as RSView and InTouch.

• Set up and configure an OPC server.

Data Analysis• Configure a color paperless

recorder to measure the characteristics of a process such as gain, dead time, and time constant.

Wiring• Easy and fast wiring using banana jacks.

• Realistic wiring using terminal blocks.

Troubleshooting• Faults can be inserted by the instructor to develop the

troubleshooting skills of the students.
