Part 1: Development of an organizational chart integrating technology

The educational system is moving toward a technology driven society. School districts are working to implement technology into their classrooms. Our district incorporates technology use on a daily basis through curriculum and instruction in order to prepare our students for the future. The Superintendent is the primary person responsible for technology integration in the district. He supervises the overall implementation process. A District Technology Plan is developed as a working document and is formally revised by the Technology Director every three years. In order to initiate successful integration of technology district wide, the Technology Director must work in conjunction with the Director of Curriculum and

Instruction. The Technology Director analyzes the STaR chart results as a means to determine district, campus, and staff needs. The Director of Curriculum and Instruction then determines staff development based upon this data. Both directors focus on matching the curriculum needs of the district with the technology resources available. Any additional technology purchases or expenses must be approved by the Director of Finance. The Special Education Director uses feedback from the special education staff to ensure that all inclusion teachers have the technology resources required as mandated by their students’ IEPs. In the next stage of the implementation process, the technology information is disseminated to the campus principals. Each principal is then in charge of overseeing the implementation process for his or her campus. It is important that the campus administrators lead by example. This includes using technology in faculty meetings and campus staff development sessions. Campus principals meet with team leaders in order to efficiently transfer the new technology guidelines to the staff. The team leaders are responsible for ensuring that their team members have all technology related district updates in order to promote successful classroom implementation of technology. Campus staff members are individually responsible for following the district plan and procedures necessary to fully utilize technology in the classroom. Successful integration of technology requires the dedication of all district personnel.

Part 2: Professional Development Planning

Professional development is vital to the successful implementation of any technology program. It is essential that educators use the knowledge and skills gained through these opportunities to address the academic needs of the 21st

century learner. Students are required to be technology literate by the end of the 8th grade. In order to meet this goal, school leaders must develop and follow a technology plan. The Technology Plan for our district sets several guidelines for professional development in this area. These guidelines include making incentives available for educators to participate in technology professional development as well as offering professional development in the use of technology to meet administrative objectives. In addition, the plan calls for the district to provide training in data examination and analysis through technology to support sound decision-making. These strategies uphold the district goal of providing the staff with professional development and opportunities to utilize technology. It is important for administrators to provide training and support for teachers making the transition toward integrating technology in the classroom. The district is striving toward vertical alignment in both curriculum and technology. In an effort to meet this goal, the District Improvement Plan requires SmartBoard and Senteo training for all classroom teachers. This training is provided each summer. Classroom support is provided for all district personnel as needed. The Technology Director and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction will continue to seek outside training sources to further improve the quality of instruction for all students. It is necessary for districts to provide quality professional development opportunities in order to ensure the success of both the teachers and students.

Part 3: Evaluation Planning for Action Plan

Consistent and frequent monitoring of the action plan is necessary in order to secure successful implementation of technology into the school system. This process should be ongoing to allow administrators the opportunity to make any adjustments throughout the school year. According to the Campus Improvement Plan, all students will receive technology based instruction. In order to fulfill this goal, teachers will use SmartBoards, Senteos, and both computer labs to facilitate instruction throughout the school year. This initiative will be evaluated through classroom visits and technology use logs. This directly supports the District Improvement Plan. The District Improvement Plan states that teachers will utilize the current technology programs to incorporate into lessons and improve student achievement. The use of these programs will be evaluated on the district level by reviewing PDAS evaluations, lesson plans, and periodic classroom observations. All technology goals are set in order to achieve the requirement that students become technology literate by the end of 8th grade. The District Technology Plan recommends offering professional development for all staff regarding the use of technology. Teacher surveys will be used to evaluate the usefulness of specific technology training. Assistant principals and team leaders will be responsible for overseeing classroom implementation. A variety of assessments will be used to monitor and evaluate the action plan. These assessments include teacher surveys, staff attendance logs, STaR chart results, and formal PDAS evaluations. The district must gear all local plans towards the requirements in the Long-Range Plan for Technology. In order to have effective implementation of technology in the classroom, it is essential to provide quality professional development for educators. Training opportunities must be ongoing in order to ensure the success of both the students and teachers. This entire process will serve to prepare our students for academic achievement in the technology based world.
