3.4 Travel Stop Adjustment
Page 10
Adjustment of End Positions(CCW indicates counter-clockwise rotation, CW indicates clockwise rotation)
On valves with actuators delivered from the factory the end positions are adjustedso that the valve is tightly closed in CW (CLOSED) position.
3.4.1 The travel stop set screws for CCWand CW position are located in the endcaps under the plastic coverings. Lookingat the ports A & B of the actuator, seefigure 3.4B, the travel stop set screw forthe CCW position is incorporated in theright end cap and the travel stop setscrew for the CW position is in the leftend cap.
3.4.2 Adjustment of CCW End Position for Double acting and Fail CW SpringReturn Actuators (Also, the CW position for Fail CCW actuators)
Remove the protection cap, if attached, and loosen the fastening nut. Turn setscrew clockwise to reduce the stroke (90˚ to approx. 78˚), turn the set screwcounter- clockwise to increase the stroke ( 90˚ to 94˚ ).After completing the adjustment, tighten the fastening nut and push theprotection cap back on the actuator.( For Models XS001, XS002 & XS006, repeat this step for the other stopscrew. These 3 models do not have CW travel adjustment.)
c9dIe{f ghf[i-a/2bdce6@P3f3f@P?g>[@P?e;<hH=
Actuator end cap removal and adjustment work on the end cap bolts must be performedwithout connection to the compressed air supply. Otherwise, the end cap may bepropelled forward and may cause property damage and/or personal injury. A test withcompressed air should only be carried out after the adjustment has been made.On spring return actuators, the load on the travel stop screw must be relieved bycompressed air before the adjustment. Contact with compressed media can causeserious injury or death.

3.4.3 Adjustment of CW End Position for the Double Acting Actuator:Models XS012 thru XS180
Remove the protection cap off the endcap screw and loosen the fastening nut.Turn set screw clockwise to increase thestroke ( 0˚ to minus 4˚ ), turn set screwcounter-clockwise to decrease the stroke( 0˚ to approx. 12˚ ).After adjusting the set screw, tighten thefastening nut and push the protection capback on the actuator.
3.4.4 Adjustment of CW End Position for the "Fail CW" Spring ReturnActuator: Models XS012 thru XS180 (Also, the CCW position of the FailCCW Actuator.)
In this case the same applies as described under Step 3.4.3. The onlydifference is that the set screw must not be turned counter-clockwise againstthe spring load or valve torque in order to avoid excessive strain and possibletravel stop damage. With the air supply connected to port "A", use only theamount of compressed air necessary to allow the set screw to be rotatedeasily.

4.1.2 Install actuator with bracket**,valve/actuator coupling. The actuatorshould be mounted for counter-clockwiserotation to open and clockwise to closethe valve unless otherwise specified inthe installation instructions provided bymanufacturer of the valve. Most valvesare manufactured so that they operate inonly one 90˚ quadrant.
Do not tighten mounting fasteners.
4.1.3 Align actuator shaft to the valvestem/shaft. This will allow the maximumperformance of the actuator in operatingthe valve.
Tighten mounting fasteners.
Connect required power supplies.
Make sure that the actuator positionindicator is indicating the current valveposition.
** Some valves allow the actuator to be installedwithout a bracket and/or valve/actuator coupling.

6.2 Installation of Shaft, Bearings andSeals
Insert top bearing. Install shaft o-rings.Insert shaft into the body. (Models XS380,XS630 & XSH15 the shaft goes in to pistonbore before going into the shaft hole in thebody.) Install retaining ring on the shaft.
6.3 Installation of Pistons, Bearings andSeals
Align the actuator shaft so that the teeth onthe shaft will "pick-up" the pistons’ rackteeth when turning the shaft clockwise(CW).Ensure that smooth movement and 90˚operation can occur without moving thepistons out of the actuator body.

Rotate the shaft to bring the pistons all theway inside the actuator. When installing springs in the actuator, ensure that the springs are placed in thesame position they were before. See page20 for spring chart.
There are two types of springs in theseactuators, clockwise wound andcounter-clockwise wound. When possible,do not place same type of spring next toeach other.
There will be equal amount of springs oneach piston except XS002, XS006 andXS960)
6.5 Installing Endcap: Double ActingModels
Ensure that endcap O-rings are in placeon both sides in the groove. Uniformlytighten all endcap screws.
Models XS012 - XS180: Turn the CWtravel stop screw clockwise through theendcap. See Section 3.4 for adjusting thetravel stops. Tighten nut on travel stop.Push on the protection cap
Install required accessories on actuator.Install actuator on valve.
