Tangkuban Perahu is an active volcano located 25-30 kilometers north of Bandung city, direction to the small town of Lembang. This volcano o�ers many places to see and explore. A blend of natural beauty and its popular Sundanese legend story, makes Tangkuban Perahu as a tourist icon and an exciting tourists destination in Bandung.

Mount Tangkuban Perahu has a Sundanese legend story behind its distinctive and peculiar shape resembles an “up-turned boat”shape. The story tells about the young boy named Sangkuriang failed to fulfill his promises to make boats and lake at one night, as a condition to marry Dayang Sumbi without knowing that she is actually his own mother. Seeing that he had not yet finished his work, Sangkuriang kicked the large boat to the north and it turned into Mount Tangkuban Perahu or “Up-turned Boat Mountain”.

Tebing Keraton is a cli� north of Bandung currently the most popular destination for its magnificent view located inside Taman Hutan Raya Djuanda "Forest Park" Conservation Area. The best time to visit this place is before 6am. Start your day with a magical morning by watching as the sun into sky and night turns into day with lush forest and hills as the backdrop.

In the morning, Tebing Keraton is crowded with visitors who mostly want to watch the sunrise. The movement of the mist hovering and sliding among the trees especially when the sun shines through the fog, is something you cannot forget easily.

To support the IHG’s Environmental sustainability program, InterContinental Bandung Dago Pakar participated in tree planting activities. Trees are vital to the existence and well being of our environment. It also plays a major role and contributions in erosion control, protection and conservation of water supplies and preventing floods. By planting trees, we make up for the loss we have caused and this is the time for us to give something back to the environment and to create a greener earth.


PRESERVED THE SUNDANESE CULTURE THROUGH TRADITIONAL MUSIC


The most notable types of Sundanese music instruments are angklung bamboo, kecapi, suling, and gamelan music. The Angklung bamboo is considered one of the world heritages of intangible culture. It is made of two to four bamboo tubes attached to a bamboo frame.

The Sundanese are indigenous people in the western part of Java. Until the 15th century, the Sunda region of Java was home to a powerful kingdom which remained independent of numerous Javanese empires. As a result, the musical forms of Sunda were profoundly di�erent from those of other areas of the island. Eventually, Sundanese music would incorporate Javanese cultural and musical influence, but without losing its own creative spirit.

Bajigur is a hot and sweet beverage from Sunda in West Java, Indonesia. The main ingredients are coconut milk and palm sugar. To enhance the flavour a small pinch of salt and cinnamon powder is also added. Prior to serving it is often garnished with 'Kolang-Kaling' (palm fruit) and fragrant leaves. The native Sundanese people usually drink Bajigur accompanied by traditional afternoon snacks, such as boiled sweet potatoes, peanuts, cassava and steamed banana.

Clorot cake is another traditional Sundanese snack. The unique feature about it is its trumpet like shape, wrapped in coconut leaves. Kue Clorot consists of rice flour as its main ingredient, coconut milk and brown sugar and its flavour is sweet and savory, while the texture is creamy.

The other well-known traditional Sundanese snack is Dodol. It is originally from the small city 'Garut' in West Java, Indonesia. Garut is an old hill station and a characteristic Sundanese town in the highlands, surrounded by mountains, volcanoes, and crystal clear lakes. It is located less than 65 KM away from Bandung. Garut has many traditional foods. The most famous local food is Dodol. It is a sweet candy made by stirring glutinous rice flour, fragrant palm sugar and coconut milk in a big wok continuously for long hours until the liquid thickens. It has a chewy but sticky texture and tastes delicious.
