Inserting YouTube into your PowerPoint

Objective

• After following the step-by-step instructions in this presentation, the participants will be able to embed a YouTube video into a PowerPoint presentation.

Embedding a YouTube video into PowerPoint

• So you found a video on YouTube and want to include it in the presentation your group is going to present.

• It CAN be done if you follow these steps.

Choose YouTube movie you want

• Before you begin—you need to choose the YouTube video you want to insert into the PowerPoint program.

• When you find one you want, click on the URL and then right click and copy.

• Now, you can start the PowerPoint process.

Step One

• Open the Developer Tab– Open a new PowerPoint– Enable the Developer TAB

• In PowerPoint 2007– Click on the Office button – Select PowerPoint Options – In Popular check "Enable Developer Tab"

• In earlier versions– Click on View– Select Toolbars– Select Control Toolbox

Step Two

• Check Security Settings– In PowerPoint 2007, check that macro security is

set to disable with notification.– In earlier versions check that macro security is

set to medium. – In PowerPoint 2007 save the file as a *.pptm or

*.ppsm macro enabled file.

• Add Shockwave Flash Object– Click on the more controls tool which looks like a

hammer and spanner.

• Now scroll down and find Shockwave Flash Object.

Step Four

Expand the View AreaOn your slide, drag to make the control fill the area you would like the YouTube Video to play in.

Step Five

Add the Link(See the next slide for screen shots of this step)

– Copy the URL of the Video you want to embed. – Now RIGHT click the control and select

“Properties.” Choose “Movie” and paste in the URL from You Tube.

– “Embed Video” should be un-clicked.

• Edit the Link– Study the URL and delete the part that says watch?

(nothing else) and then change the = sign to a /

• Play the Movie
