• A well is to be disinfected. Its dimensions are as

follows;

1. Depth of water column = 20 m

2. Diameter of the well = 6 m ( 1 cubic meter = 1000

litres of water )

• On estimation of chlorine demand of the well

water using Horrock’s apparartus, blue color

develops in the 3rd cup.

• Calculate the quantity of bleaching powder that

would be required to disinfect the well.

= 3.14 x3x3x20

= 565.2 m3

= 565200 litres

• Amount of bleaching powder required to disinfect 455 litres

of water = 3x2g = 6 g

• Amount of bleaching powder required for this well

= (565200 x 6)/ 455

= 7.45 kg

plants and some wild animals leading to ecosystem

damage, insecticide resistance

• Mode of Action: Contact poison

• Mode of application: 50% EC. Only insecticide approved

• Physical Appearance: Yellow or clear brown colored liquid

• Mode of Action: Contact Poison

• Mode of application:

– Malathion Technical (95%) for use as space spray

– 50% Water Dispersible Powder (WDP) & emulsifiable

Concentrate (EC) for residual control

– 90% dust for use against fleas and lice

– Culex quinquefasciatus (non-potable water)
