The Importance of SMEs Database

Data and Information are considered the backbone of

setting the appropriate strategies and formulating the

right banking policies and programs to enhance the

development process of SMEs in Egypt

Banks have been always reciting that there is shortage

of sufficient and reliable data about this sector in Egypt

Goal

Creating a timely and reliable source of data and

information on SMEs that serves all the SMEs stakeholders

to overcome the problem of insufficient data and

information on SMEs sector in Egypt.

Methodology

The Central Bank of Egypt and the Egyptian Banking

Institute took the initiative to conduct a comprehensive

National SME Census

Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics

(CAPMAS) was selected to conduct the field survey

according to vast experience in data collection, tabulation

and preparing statistical reports

The Center of Surveys and Statistical Applications (CSSA)

was assigned to ensure high quality and validity as well as

accuracy of data collection process

The survey focused on formal sector (registered SMEs)

only

No. of employees is more than 5 employees
