Ingeo is Cargill Dow’s brand name for the first man-made fibre derived from 100% annuallyrenewable resources. The process starts with an abundant, natural raw material (today corn) that can be easilyand efficiently converted into plant sugars, which are then fermented using technology,which is similar to making yoghurt. Other potential feedstocks for the future are rice andpotatoes (and even grass and straw). The fermentation products are subsequentlytransformed into a high-performance polymer called polylactide from which the brandedIngeo fibres and filament yarns are extruded. The production and use of Ingeo means less greenhouse gases are added to theatmosphere in comparison with traditional synthetic fibres. Compostability and chemical recyclability also mean that under the right conditions andwith the right handling the complete life cycle of production, consumption, disposal andreuse is completely closed.

Bleaching

Especially for bright pale shades a bleaching of the cotton portion before dyeing is necessary. To prevent hydrolysis of Ingeo during this process only a soft bleach is recommended.
