Please use discretion and only print necessary materials (no more than 3 pages unless you have permission from Mrs. Campbell or Ms. Luecker)

Use a usb drive if you need to take documents to/from home

Insert the drive, open the document and “save as” onto the drive. Close the document. When you are ready to take out the drive, follow these steps: right click on the symbol at the bottom of the screen

This box will appear, click on stop Click on your drive

and then OK When this message appears, you can remove the drive.

At the SHS Library we use the Dewey Decimal System to organize materials.

On the spine of each book we put the “call number” to help us find books quickly. There are several “prefixes” we use at SHS to tell us more about where to find an item.

F = fiction B = biographies G = gateway award books REF = reference - overnight checkout only! RES = reserved MAG = magazine LOS = lost PRC = professional collection – teachers only! VHS = video – teachers only! EQ = equipment – teachers only!

AR – Accelerated Reader

This program tests your knowledge of books you have read.

It is similar to Reading Counts program in use at the Middle school.

The points you earn are based on the percentage of the questions you answer correctly in the quiz.

• Click on the Hold/Reserve button

• Type in your library patron number & password (see the librarian if you don’t know it)

about a person’s life. B is the call number for

biographies Biographies are located in the

back half of the library Collective biographies, books

written about groups of people, are located at the beginning of the biography section.

B and the dewey number tell you the location of collective biographies.

Back Issues of Magazines

Most magazines are kept for five years. Five magazines are bound every year into volumes

Time, US News, National Geographic, and Newsweek.

Most date back to 1980. (NG dates back to 1971.) Ask the librarian if you need to see a back issue.

Magazine check out is for one day-- they are due back the next day.

Fines for overdue magazines are $.05 per day.
