1.Define Your Mission & Values
your Mission and
your Values are
powerful tools for
defining and guiding
your chapter's ability
to create the
future.

BNI’s Mission
“To help members increase their business
through a structured, positive and
professional word-of-mouth program that
enables them to develop long-term,
meaningful relationships with quality
business professionals and create positive
community goodwill.”
To build a trustworthy and reliable group of trades
and business people that we know can do the job,
therefore we can refer with confidence.
BNI Sevenoaks
Within this framework our goal is to educate our members that
networking is more about farming than it is about hunting; it's about
cultivating long term mutually beneficial business
relationships! BNI Network Central
Our vision is to become a membership that is known by our visitors
and colleagues as a supportive group of professionals, each
collaborating to create a successful and dynamic community
where at its foundation can be found the basic belief that givers
gain can help us to achieve our mission.

3. Surround Yourself with People
...who serve and support your cause.
The quality of your chapter is a direct reflection of
the expectations of your members. Choose
your members wisely. © inemmo 2012/joymaitland
4. Inspire & Motivate
An easy goal will be perceived as unnecessary
and enthusiasm will dwindle. Goals that are too
difficult often discourage motivation.

6. Say ‘No’ To Reinventing the
Wheel
Ensure that BNI
policy &
procedures
are adhered to.
They exist for a
reason.

7. Minimise Disruption
Identify and eliminate. Do not procrastinate.
The ‘moaner’ causes
the largest number of
disruptions in a
chapter; the chronic
malcontent always has
a problem with
something - never a
solution.

8. Play to Your Strengths
We are at our best when we are playing to our
strengths. Recognise that members may have a
natural talent for certain roles and tasks. © inemmo 2012/joymaitland
9. Review, Revise, and Reward
Does your current
measurement
indicate that you are
on track or ahead/
behind schedule? Is
the GOAL still
relevant? Reward
Contributions.

Next Steps
Identify possible Challenges - check that the
goals set are SMART
(Specific – Measurable – Attainable – Realistic – Timely)
Take Corrective Action: Put right things (which
have gone wrong), in a manner which not just corrects
the problem, but also prevents its recurrence.
Take Preventive Action: Consider what problems
might exist and what action should be taken which will
prevent the problem from occurring at all. © inemmo 2012/joymaitland
10. Believe that you can accomplish
the goal
If we do not have the confidence, how can we
instil it in others! © inemmo 2012/joymaitland
