INTRODUCTION

2

A cell site is a site where antennas and electronic communications equipment are placed, usually on a tower or other high place, to create a cell (or adjacent cells) in a cellular network. Cellular (cell) phones first became widely available in the United States in the 1990s, but since then their use has increased dramatically. The widespread use of cell phones has led to cell phone towers being placed in many communities. These towers, also called base stations, have electronic equipment and antennas that receive and transmit radio frequency (RF) signals. According to the RF Plan we have to install the antenna at a proper height on tower. Installation procedure is different for many others company, but there are no any complexity regarding that installation. In case of Nokia Siemens Network they don’t use any loop or bend on RF cable. Reliance don’t use any Jumper cable for a cell site. In this presentation we have discussed about the installation procedure and quality point of outdoor equipments.

:PROCEDURE TO INSTALL AN ANTENNA

7

First we have to make the connection between antenna port and jumper cable and connection should be weather proofed, and other end of jumper cable should be covered by polythene. If we give mechanical tilt then it should be done at bellow, electrical tilt should be avoided at this condition because, it should be change by touching the tower body.

Page 8: Industrial training in telecom

ANTENNA INSTALLATION :

8

We have to take the antenna up on tower with the help of pulley or rope Keep the antenna away from tower body by pulling the rope carefully.

Quality Check Point Of Jumper Cable:

15

In case of U-Loop of both jumper cable should be parallel

There should not be any sharp bend in the jumper cable

In case of close loop there should be two cable ties at the touching point

Routing of Jumper cable should be done by using cable ties

Distance of the two cable ties should be uniform and approx 200mm.

At the bend in the Jumper cable at least two cable ties should be provided at touching edge

Parallel U-loop

Close loop

Labeling should be done with both the end of jumper cable

Routing of Jumper cable should be together and along with the tower body

Termination of Jumper cable should be verified by VSWR measurement

Last hand of PVC tape should be bottom to top

Specification Of RF Cable:

17

• Size of the inner core is equal to the size of normal co-axial cable.

• As it’s a hollow , so it increase surface, decrease resistance, increase capacity, increase flexibility, lesser cost

• Inner Core : Pure Copper.• Soft Insulation : Fume• Outer Core : Pure Copper Cylindrical Tube.• Outer Insulation : Hard Insulation , black in

color.• Size Of The Cable : diameter 5/4” or 7/5”• Impedance : 50Ω
