2. Indian Polished-DiamondExports Decline DramaticallyAccording to a report from Indias Gems andJewellery Export Promotion Council, the countryspolished-diamond industry shows increasinginstability. This despite growing demand in theAmerican consumer markets brought on by theapproach of the holiday buying season.The report details an export slump in the fourmonths following April of this year. In that sameperiod last year, the Indian diamond sectorexported $8.3 billion worth of product; this year,that number declined to just under $5 billion, a fallof 42 percent. 3. Current estimatesare that diamond inventories hover in thelow to mid $20 billion range.
