Bayern Innovativ GmbH

Most innovations originate where expertise from various disciplines comes together. Bayern Innovativ GmbH, foun- ded in 1995 at the initiative of the Bavarian state govern- ment, capitalizes on this phenomenon and connects potential cooperation partners from different industries and technologies in order to drive innovations in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in particular. Bayern Innovativ brings together experts from industry and science at all levels of the value chain and offers customised services to help them close existing gaps in technologies, supply chains and sales channels.

The networks of Bayern Innovativ GmbH presently com- prise some 80,000 experts from 40,000 companies and research institutes and 80 partner network organisations. The activities centre on digitalisation, energy, health, material and mobility – five focal areas with significant future potential.

Cluster New Materials

The Cluster New Materials is the Bavaria-wide platform for information, communication and technology in new materials. The cluster managed by Bayern Innovativ GmbH aims to promote technology transfer across materials and industries and to identify technology tasks based on demand. These tasks are promoted by means of pro- active network activities. The cluster also contributes actively to initiating technology-oriented joint projects to create value on a regional level.

The cluster focuses its activities on seven fields, including metallic lightweight construction materials, fibre com- posites, plastics and glass. Cluster meetings on specific subjects are organised at companies and institutes bring- ing together experts and potential customers. Cluster circles and expert panels regularly meet to discuss special issues, thus concentrating topics down to the project level and supporting partners in their market-oriented project work. The Cluster New Materials comprises about 400 companies and research institutes.

CoTexx® Knitted Heating Fabric made of stranded copper wire is a semi finished product for manufacturing of elec- trical panel heaters, e.g. in tools for the production of fibre-reinforced composites. Characteristics are an ex- tremely homogenous, water-quench like distribution of heat, rapid responding behaviour and unbeatable eco- nomic efficiency. Its implementation is not limited to thermo setting resins as matrix because the heating fabric is suitable for combination with other materials like elastomer (e.g. silicone) or thermoplastics (e.g. PE). If demanded CoTexx GmbH consults you on usage and application plus provides the appropriate control units and software.

CoTexx GmbH is specialised in industrial research, develop-ment and production of high-tech products, which utilize the natural biocidal and antiseptic properties of non- ferrous and precious metals. Due to the necessity to pro-duce the developed products at marketable prices, a production line of knitted technical textiles was set up. As a result of its innovative capabilities it is also avail-able for other industrial sectors.

Munich Composites GmbH is a company for build-to-order carbon fiber composite components. It offers all steps in the value chain from design to production of large series of braided hollow parts with its patented "BRAIDform" production process.

Braiding allows for high volume production of hollow CFRP components in superior quality. We have completely auto- mated the fiber lay up – every fiber has the ideal angel even in complex shapes. Our innovations, including a directly reusable core system and the collaboration of several robots, speed up the cycle time and result in lower costs for our customers.

Parts in large quantities and complex geometries can be produced at a significantly lower cost with this technology. We can guarantee that every component has the exact same high quality. Furthermore we offer a manufacturing technique suitable for high manufacturing quantities re- quired in different industries.

Engineering Services – Foam Injection Molding Prototypes – Foaming Molds – Laboratory

Schaumform GmbH provides highly specialized support for customers that are interested in up-to-date methods for lightweight production.

The focus of the work is on the production of large volume goods that show superior lightweight performances.

With the processing approaches of Schaumform the manu- facturing of lightweight parts in one-minute-cycles is achieved.Commonly, thermoplastic systems are used and processing methods derived from injection molding are employed.

The services of Schaumform start from lightweight design and lead to technical calculations and FEM. Then, the necessary pre-investigations are conducted by using test molds and machinery.

After technical feasibility studies prototype molds are construed by Schaumform and the production of the parts can commence in Schaumform’s laboratory which is, inter alia, equipped with 3 foam injection molding machines.

Since 1956 SILTEX stands with its braids (sleeves, tapes and cords) for excellent technical achievements, innovation, reliability, quality and internationalism.

SILTEX’s high flexibility, combined with most modern materials – like Carbon, Aramide, Glass, Polyamide, … – and large capacity enables to develop individual braids coordinated with its customers. Also customizing of al- ready existing products or completely new design can be realized within a short time. Dimensions from 0.2 mm up to 500 mm in width or diameter is the range.

Meeting international standards and guidelines for safety and environment as well as technical specifications is compulsory for us (ISO 9001 for example).

Our brand "Polymer Engineering" stands for scientific and practical research and teaching in the field of polymer materials. The Department of Polymer Engineering at the University of Bayreuth, the business area of plastics at New Materials Bayreuth GmbH and the Department of Polymer Engineering at TuTech Innovation GmbH in Hamburg embody this brand under the guidance of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Volker Altstädt.

The main research at all three locations lies on the ma- terial, the construction and the production, with the aim to develop high performance plastic products. The focus of the research is the systematic analysis and use of causal relationships between processing, structure and properties of polymer materials. This allows a strategic approach to the development of innovative products.

Our group combines physical and chemical fundamental knowledge to bring innovative smart materials into real world applications. A number of modern industry-relevant manufacturing methods are available. The characteriza-tion of the large spectrum of properties belongs to our daily work. By building a bridge between pure science and industrial needs, our group is proud to be a reliable collaborator on the development of the new generation of composite materials with our industrial partners.
