Washington’s independent colleges serve an economically diverse student body:
Over 20% of resident undergraduates receive the State Need Grant and about 25% of undergraduates are awarded the Federal Pell Grant. The majority of financial aid to low-income students is in the form of grants.

Independent colleges receive less than 2% of the state higher education budget, all in the form of student aid, yet deliver nearly 25% of degrees.
For every state or federal grant dollar awarded to students attending an independent college, the institution contributes an average of $10 through financial aid.
