The Human Body

• Your nose can remember 50,000 different scents.

• An adult human body has roughly 100,000 miles of blood vessels.

• Every 60 seconds, your red blood cells do a complete circuit of your body.

Space

• The sun has already burnt off around half of its store of hydrogen. When it runs out it will expand so much that it will engulf Mercury, Venus and the Earth.

• Even though Venus is not the closest planet to the Sun, it is the hottest at a scorching 450°C.

• It is thought that there is a planet made of diamond, with the catchy name, 55 Cancri e.

Our Earth

• 40% of the earth’s land is taken by just 6 countries.

• The earth’s core holds enough gold to coat its entire surface to a depth of 1.5 feet.

• If it were possible to drill a hole straight through the earth and jump in, it would take around 42 minutes to get to the other side.

The Animal Kingdom

• Other than humans, the only other animal to call each other by name (that we know of) are dolphins as they mimic the whistle of the dolphin they are calling out to.

• Elephants are incredibly intelligent as they mourn their dead, show compassion to other species and recognize their own reflections

• There is a species of jellyfish that is practically immortal due to its ability to regenerate its own cells.

• Cleopatra lived closer to present day than she did to the construction of the pyramids.

• The first fine for speeding was awarded to Walter Arnold in 1896 who was driving at a speedy 8mph in a 2mph zone.

• During World War I, an explosion on a French battlefield was heard 140 miles away in London.

Prehistoric Times

• The heaviest dinosaur was the Brachiosaurus weighing in at an impressive 80 tonnes, which is the equivalent of 17 African Elephants.

• For 165 million years, dinosaurs roamed the earth, compared to the measly 2 million years of humans (these did not overlap!)

• The terrifying Megalodon was the biggest prehistoric fish. It would have looked similar to a Great White Shark, but 3 times bigger.
