Why women’s football?
• The role of women in society has evolved dramatically in recent years. We now have the responsibility to help the world of sport evolve for women, as women constitute 50% of society.
• The FIFA Member Associations are in the front line in facilitating the growth of women’s football in their countries by establishing grassroots projects, creating women’s leagues and educating everyone involved in the federations.
Benefits of women’s football
• FIFA has many aims; promoting health and education are key missions.
• The decline of children practicing sport is alarming and the associated consequences of obesity, diabetes, chronic pain and psychological problems are very serious.
• The benefits to young girls of playing football include: - starting to view exercise as something fun, - learning about their bodies and how to take care of themselves, - learning how to interact in a team, - learning how to deal with winning and losing as a team.
