Introduction

The Singang Incense Artistic Culture

Garden is a 9,900m2 traditional incense

garden which manufactures a variety of

classic incense products and introduces

visitors to the origins, development and

culture of incense-making. Located in

Chang Hwa, south Taiwan, the garden

is the oldest incense culture house in

the country and is a distinguished local

attraction of both cultural and industrial

signi� cance. The garden exhibits a deep

and expert knowledge of this traditional,

distinctive craft and aims to give visitors

a better understanding of incense art and

culture. The garden utilizes an innovative,

creative experience based around

traditional incense technology, illustrating

the incense-making process and displaying

incense-related works of art. The history

and religion of incense culture, as well

as the elegance and meaning of incense

products, are explained through creative

The precious, cherished and valuable nature

of the incense garden’s property is an

attractive proposition for thieves who could

potentially cost the garden owners millions

of dollars in the unthinkable occurrence

of a theft. The security of the incense

garden and its rare, valuable treasures is

property could be covered discreetly and

e� ciently, along with motion detection

functionality. And the network of IP

surveillance cameras required a reliable

infrastructure solution to link the hardware

into an e� ective system and provide

signi� cant recording capacity, meaning

central management software, network

video recorders (NVRs) and network

switches were also critical requirements.

Solution

Working closely with the incense garden

owners, Edimax Technology determined that

the Edimax IC-7000PTn was an ideal product

for this project. E� ectively monitoring

the incense garden is a challenge due to

the nature and size of the property, and

the garden owners’ mobile monitoring

requirements were also a priority – so

the hardware’s capabilities needed to be

versatile and robust enough to meet the

owner’s demands. The IC-7000PTn features

the key characteristics which were critical for

this project, speci� cally a wide-angle lens,

motorized pan and tilt, motion detection

and event-trigger snapshots, and support

for mobile monitoring via the iPhone &

Android compatible EdiView smartphone

app.

Between them they regularly use a range of

smartphones based on di� erent operating

systems, and one of their primary security

requirements was that the surveillance

system could be monitored and recorded

individually in high de� nition, anytime and

anywhere. Such a requirement is di� cult

for traditional surveillance systems to

achieve, which also fail to match modern

IP surveillance systems in terms of mobility

and cost-e� ciency. Mobile high de� nition

monitoring was an essential requirement

for the both the e� ectiveness of the

surveillance system, and the peace-of-

mind of the incense garden owners.

The vast premises of the incense garden

(9,900m2) – including restaurant, shopping

area and parking lot - also presented

speci� c requirements in terms of the

reach and coverage quality of the video

The convenience of the IC-7000PTn’s

smartphone app, including remote pan

and tilt control, make the IC-7000PTn

an excellent solution for wide-scale

deployment across the incense garden;

any single camera can be accessed by the

garden owners around the clock on both

iOS or Android operating systems. The

owners can stream live video of their entire

property remotely, with each camera

equipped with a versatile ±355 degree

pan and ±120 degree tilt capability and

wide viewing angle, to ensure that every

corner of the beautiful gardens, gourmet

restaurant, shopping facilities and parking

lot, is covered.

Edimax central management software,

NVRs and network switches were installed

to provide a seamless surveillance

infrastructure. The garden owners can

select H.264, MPEG-4 or M-JPEG video

compression mode dependent on

preference and network settings and

images are sent to network video recorders

in the o� ces. The IC-7000PTn V3’s e� cient

H.264 compression technology maintains

clear and quality video but o� ers smaller

� les size, saving storage space and

improving transfer speeds. Edimax IC-

3030Wn triple mode � xed network

cameras were also used in some locations

to consolidate coverage where pan & tilt

capability wasn’t required.

Results

The owners can relax in the knowledge

that their premises are secured by a reliable

and � exible surveillance system, which can

be expanded or upgraded in the future

should their requirements evolve. The

peace of mind a� orded by the system’s

comprehensive coverage is priceless; the

owners can check in on their assets and see

a live stream 24/7 from anywhere in the

world. Motion detection combined with
