Pierre Weil, the founder of UNIPAZ,Peace University, was a great psy-chodramatist. He won the UNESCOPrize for Education for Peace usingPsychodrama Methods. To learn more about this incredibleman, his work and life, go to: www.pierreweil.pro.br/USA.htm

“Pierre Weill, PhD, was born in Colmar,Alsace, France, on 15 April 1924, anddied in his home in Brazil on 8 October, 2008. Afterobtaining a doctorate in psychology from ParisUniversity, he emigrated early to Brazil and taught atBelo Horizonte University. Weill was the first to intro-duce psychodrama in Brazil and also trained staff inbanks and other businesses. His major effort in hislater years was the creation of Unipaz, the universityfor peace in Brazil. He taught action methods forpeace in Brazil, Portugal, France, and other countries.Weill received a special prize from UNESCO for hiswork for peace in the world, peace in family, peaceamong neighbors. I (Anne) knew him well, because hehas been a student of mine before becoming a long-time friend. He was a deeply spiritual person and hespent three years, three months and three weeks in aBuddhist Ashram.

Dr. Weill was married twice, first in France, and hissecond marriage was in Brazil. Each year he returnedto France to visit his daughter near Toulouse. He alsooften came to visit me in Paris in March for my birth-day. His eyesight was poor in 2007 so did not come toEurope since that time; however, he emailed me aweek ago. Pierre Weil and I published some bookstogether in Brazil and also around 1960 he invited tocome and teach psychodrama in Brazil with LéaPedro. Pierre had a very rich and fruitful life. Be atPeace dear Pierre.”

Your lifelong friend, Anne Ancelin Schutzenberger (89 years old),

French Psychodrama Pioneer

“Pierre Weil's death is a great loss, not only for ourcommunity, but also for the world. He had a rich spirit,a large view of life and dedicated himself to humanityand peace. I will miss his not being here but he willlive in my heart.” Love, Zerka

“The news of Pierre Weil's death sad-dened me extremely. Beside his meritsfor peace and psychodrama, I remem-ber him as a deeply spiritual person. He was born in Strasbourg as was mymother and sharing warm feelings forthat city gave us a sort of "co-uncon-scious" or rather "a richer co-con-scious" in addition to other mutualinterests we used to discuss. I had somuch hoped to see him again in

Rome.... Remembering him forever I join the largegroup mourning him.” Grete Leutz

“I remember Pierre Weil most from the IAGPCongress in Copenhagen where we had a meetingtrying to establish the First International PsychodramaAssociation. This was in the 1980's. Someone tookoffense that we were all speaking in English andquereyed whether we could talk Quebecquois, wherethis participant was from in Canada. Doreen Eleftherygot up and said, "Well I was raised in Wales, does thatmean we all have to speak Gaelic?" Pierrre was sittingone seat in front of me. He put his head in his handsand moaned, "Poor humanity." A quiet observation in achaotic moment but I was struck by the globality of hiscomment and his concern. He was one to see the big-ger picture in a humble way. We were rich with hispresence and we will miss him.” Marcia Karp

“I only met Pierre Weil once in Portugal several yearsago and he impressed me a lot: wise, humble, nottalkative but full of visions. After that meeting I startedto read some of his publications. I just want to sharewith you one of his "fabulas" = little stories which I likevery much reflecting his style of thinking and teachingpeace:

The tale of the colibri: Once upon a time there wasa fire in the wood. All the animals ran away desperate-ly. Only the colibri (a type of hummingbird) chose theopposite direction. He took water with his beak from anearby lake and threw it into the fire. An armadillo, intrigued by his procedure, asked him, "Colibri, do youreally think that you can put out the fire? The colibrianswered him: "I am sure that I cannot put out the firealone, but I am doing my part."
