you search the Griffith's Valuation by surname or by placename. Typing a surname and, at

least, a county, gives you a list of names. Against each name are icons you can click to see a

transcription, the image of the original page and a valuation map. From the valuation page note

the number of the holding in the left hand column and on the valuation map the holding is clearly outlined in red. At the top right there is a slider bar that enables you to merge, gradually, the valuation map with a modern map or a satellite image or both. The screenshots below show a

search for Alexander McKeague of Aghadowey: his holding, 9a in Lower Collins, is marked on the map of that townland, identifying the house and the extent of the farm.
