FOR AMATEURS.

Howard Jackson Woo Championship on 100 Straight Targets—J. M. Miller Took Live Bird Honors—Lester Ger= man High in Open Events.

Thp third annual Maryland County Shoot was Ill-Id at the. Baltimore Shooting Association grounds. June '2, 3, 4 and 5. at

Baltimore. Md. Nice weath­ er throughout the four days made enjoyable shoot­ ing' and a large crowd of amateurs from the .sur­ rounding counties was at­ tracted by the cash and merchandise prizes, and quite a number of experts were on hand to take part in the open events.

The tournament was ar­ ranged by J. Mowell Hawk- ins, of Baltimore, who act­ ed as manager, assisted by James Ma lone.

The shooting was over four sets of ex­ pert traps, arranged on the Sergeant Sys­ tem. Three sets were used for the county amateurs and one set for the open events.

On the first day, which was open to all for practice, six sweepstake events were shot, a total of 100 targets, and a handi­ cap at r>0 targets, handicap rise, for mer­ chandise prizes.

In the six events Lrster German shot in great form, scoring 07, with GO straight. J. M. Hawk'iiis had time to break 94 with (11

straight. Storr and Ma lout- scored 90. A. H. Richard­ son, an amateur of Dover. Del., shot well, breaking 5)1, with a run of the lirst 54 straight. Hendersoii and Boyd, two amateurs, broke 91 each.

In the .~>0 target handicap. Dr. Hender­ son, of Baltimore, and H. 1). Jackson, of Perryville, both amateurs at 19 yards, had 48 each. In the shoot off for' first and second prizes. Hendersoii broke 2:? and Jackson 22. Seven men broke 45 and shot off Du Pont, German, Storr. Kichardson, Hawkins and King winning third to eighth

On the second day the amateurs had the 100 target county championship, and six events at 15 and 20 targets, a total of

100 shots. " There was .f52 added to the sweeps, and 20 prizes offered in the championship event.

Tlie open events were ten in number, each at 20 tar­ gets, with $5 added to each event. The purses were divided live moneys, class shooting. As a handicap the experts paid an en­ trance of $2, the semi-ex­ perts .$1.50 and the ama­ teurs $1.00.

The County Amateur Championship was won by

Howard D. Jackson, of Perryville, Md., on the remarkably tine score of 100. Not only is this a grand performance but one that few men have ever equaled, i. e., breakiug 1OO straight iu a match at 100 targets. He finished 15 more being miss­ ing. Mr. Jackson is a young man who shoots but comparatively little at the traps, but has the skill of a professional. He was the winner of this honor last year on'Tv score of 91 out of 100. Jackson used an L. C. Smith gun* :5S grains Du Pont. IVt No. 71/.; in Leader shells. Second place was taken by Dr. W. L. Hendersoii. of Phoenix, Md. He is a member of the B. S. A. His prize was a Baltimore ham- inerless gun.

M. E. Cole, of Perryville, took third, a silver water pitcher, on a score of 94. He was tied by W. G. Marley, of Towson,

but won the shoot-oft' by the score of 24 to 22 out of 25. John George, of Sudlerville, won fifth on 91.

In the amateur sweeps Jackson led will) 9:: out of 100. Silver King broke 91; Levy, Hendersoii and Orri- son. 90: Worthiiigtou and George. 89.

In the open events Los- ter German again topped the list with 195 out of 200. with runs of 53 and 54

The third day's events were well con­ tested. The team match way won by Cecil County, Md., on 141 out of 150 tar­ gets. T

In the county amateur sweeps u. <». Marley. of Towson, led with 94 out of 100.

In the team match a silver cup was of­ fered for high individual score. Dr. Hen­ dersoii and M. K. Cole tied on 49, Hender­ soii winning the shoot-off.

In the open events Hawkins led with 190 out of 200. making a run of 54 straight. Squicr broke 189. Storr shot well toward the finish and ran 01 straight, but was fourth for the day.

For the two days a ring was offered for high open average. German was high with :i!S2 out of 400; hut as he was donor of the prize he gave it to Hawkins, who was second on .'!81. Squier was third with .•{til: Malone fourth with .'MM: Storr fifth on HtH), and Boyd sixth on X~t',l.

For the amateurs H. D. Jackson broke 186 out of 200: Hendersoii and Orrison, 18.'{; White. 179: George and Worthington, 178: Levy, 17<>: Malone. 175. Fourteen oth­ ers finished the program.

The targets for the amateurs were thrown smooth and with a rather high night of about 40 yards, with a clear back­ ground. The open 'events were shot from faster traps and a bad background of trees on the left caused rather hard shooting. White-flyer targets were used.

On the fourth (lay live birds were shot. J. Myron Miller, of Cecil County, won the amateur live-bird championship' of Mary­ land on 15 kills. He was tied by Dr. Hen- derson. but won on the shoot-off.

The shoot was a great success, and the managers received' great praise for giving the amateurs such a pleasant shoot.
