Serving the Community since 1985
Presidents Report We had a lot of fun at the Fawlty Towers fellowship night at Beaumaris Theatre Company on Thursday, I heard many laughs, and the cast got better and better as the night went on. Malcolm and Louise organized a fabulous night, the raffle was great, and a free ticket for everyone was much appreciat-ed.
At Saturday’s Farmer’s Market I was privileged to be at the announcement of the School Working Group for the re-establishment of Beaumaris Sec-ondary College. Thanks to the work of many locals it looks like there is going to be a continuing future for the campus. We certainly hope so. Peter Flude knew everyone I was introduced to, he has pene-trated deep into the Education Department hierar-chy in his pursuit of stability for the Farmer’s Mar-ket. Certainly a lot of staff from the Education De-partment were there, which was also a good sign. Thanks to Peter and Heather for their commitment to the Farmers Market and also to our elected rep-resentatives, Tim Richardson and Murray Thomp-son for their hard work for the community.
Community was very much in evidence at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday, many of our mem-bers were there working, as well as some visiting for the socializing, as were many of the community. Heather and her stalwarts had everything orga-nized, the rain held off and early indications are that we raised a record amount, from the gate and BBQ and we certainly raised a record amount for the raf-fle cause .The nominated cause for Saturday’s farmers market raffle was Impact for Women Inc., a charity committed to making a difference to Victori-an women and children fleeing extreme violence at home.
I am so proud of Beaumaris Rotary and our mem-bers in relation to the Farmers Market; it is earning money to help us fund our giving, however it is also building such a sense of community. Every one of you who say hello and welcome to the people com-ing in the gate helps to create that sense of com-munity. It is that sense of being part of a communi-

ty which is so important; it is our society’s bul-wark against the senseless acts we see of vio-lence and terrorism.
We will be doing more in the community in the next weeks, we have the Golf Parking from Wednesday through to Sunday, and no Rotary this week at VGC, our “after party” for the golf is on Sunday Night 22 November at 7pm at The Grange, 12 North Concourse Beaumaris.
All members, partners and special friends are welcome to attend and hear all the war stories.
Megan has arranged a two-course meal com-prising share plate entrée and alternate of fish or steak, plus BYO wine for $35.00 per head.
There will be a prize for best Masters story. Please let James or Megan know if you want to go.
The following weekend is the Concourse Christmas Carnival, on Saturday 28 November. Richard Shermon is handling for us, please contact him if you are able to help. The DJ is apparently very popular so we may get lots of people there.
A reminder that not only will we have David Langworthy doing a turn as Santa at the Christ-mas Farmers Market, we will also have on De-cember 10th our own Christmas Party and 30th anniversary of chartering at Beaumaris motor yacht Squadron. Put it in your diaries now.
Yours in Rotary
Trish
Concourse Christmas Carnival For the last few years our club has worked with the Concourse Traders Association to hold the Concourse Christmas Carnival. See poster on page 4. This year the Carnival will be held on Saturday 28 November between 2pm and 9pm.
The event will have something for all the family with fun rides, food and refreshments, Santa Claus, external stalls and entertainment featur-ing Havana Brown along with some local bands. I would like to take this opportunity to seek some Rotary volunteers to help on the day. Volunteers will be needed to help with car park-ing on the Beaumaris Primary School oval, sell-ing tickets for the rides, helping to sell tickets for the raffle, hosting the Rotary marque amongst other activities. I am suggesting we split the day into two shifts (1-5pm and 5-9pm) to share the load. Please could you let me know (if you haven't already signed up) to which shift you might be able to volunteer. Thanks for your help, Richard Shermon.

Farmers Market Raffle The nominated cause for Saturday’s farmers mar-ket raffle was Impact for Women Inc., a charity committed to making a difference to Victorian wom-en and children fleeing extreme violence at home. Thanks to the fantastic efforts of our volun-teers we raised a total of $600.00 which will be go-ing to Impact. See the flyer below for more details.

Preening brings out the coy side of a blue-winged macaw, also known as an Illiger's ma-caw. Found in the wild in parts of Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay, the small parrot is classified as near threatened by the IUCN. Habitat loss and the pet trade have contributed to its shrinking numbers.
