ICAR-IIHR, has been in theforefront indevelopingmicrobialtechnologiesforhorticulturalcropproduction. The“Arka Microbial Consortium” (AMC) developedattheInstituteandreleasedasanInstitutetechnologyintheyear2011.Itisanexcellentinputforsustainablehorticultural crop production andsustenance of soil health. It is acarrierbasedproductthatcontainsNfixing,P&Znsolubilizing,plantgrowthpromotingbacterialstrains,thathashelpedfarmersovercomeproblemofavailabilityofmultiplequalitybio-inoculantsat therighttime. This product is evaluatedsystematically in the institutionaltrials and various farmers’ fields, andisuniqueforhorticulturalcropproduction.ThesalientfeaturesofthisproductareAMC exploits the synergisticeffectsoftheindividualmicrobialstrains anddoes awaywith theneed for applying individualmicrobialinoculants.
Aspertheirconvenience, farmerscan apply this product eitherthrough seed, soil, water and
nurserymedialikecocopeat. In nursery, early seed germination, increased seedling vigor, lowerdiseaseincidenceandearlytransplantabilityareobserved.
AMCapplicationresultsinyieldincreaseof10-17%indifferentvegetables, in addition to 25%saving of inorganic N and Pfertilizers.
Arka Microbial Consortium hasbeen extensively evaluated inpepper plantations of KodaguDistrict of Karnataka. ICAR-IIHRinassociationwithitsKVKat Gonikoppal has evaluated thisproduct in multiple locations ofKodagu district. It was observedthathealthyvinesinoculatedwiththisproductyielded10%higherthantheuninoculatedvines.Apparentlyweak vines inoculated with thisproductrecorded50%higheryields,overa two-yearperiodcomparedto theuninoculatedvines.
