Improve PLM Ease of use with PDS Search Portal – “Search “PDS Search Portal is our most popular application. It is simply a layer on top of Windchill to enable business specific tasks via a portal interface. The portal is easy to customize and often implemented with a few depart-mental specific designs. In its standard form it simplifies the search of information within Windchill PDMLink and easily links the search response to a publishing or printing process. Below are some examples of use cases: R&D – Publish drawings and documents from entire projects into one folder with an attached document list in Excel format.

Procurement – Find all sheet metal parts in a structure and publish all CAD models to STEP format.

Production – Replace the drawing archive with a simplified search and print.

Support – Easily create a problem report and link it to failing item.

Improve Business intelligence with PDS Search Portal – “Report”With a growing need for reporting we have developed our own tool for PLM Business Intelligence as part of our PDS Search Portal application. Navigate to reports from process charts, track changes or simply report general business metrics, all from customizable views. The change view is a standard view that required by many and allows you to track change management progress from a single page of information. If needed the tool can be adopted to fit any process reporting or PLM Business Intelligence task.

Improve Information Quality with PDS QA-Checker and Creo ClassificationProduct Development is the birthplace of product information and also the place to control the values of names, attributes and other standards. Once it´s time for release another gate must pass and we need to ensure good quality of documentation.

For the part of entering data PDS have developed Creo Classification to ensure that Creo users are conforming to corporate standards. Once the engineers enter information into Creo, it will find standard attributes from a single source to ensure things like naming standards, material standards and other classification attributes. For the control part we have developed PDS QA-Checker. This tool can be implemented into Windchill PDMLink as part of a workflow or a built in button and will control all data in a complete structure as well as help ensuring data quality before a product release.

- Fetch information from Windchill “Options and Variants” and automate CAD models and drawings for production.

- Fetch information from 3rd party Sales Configurator and automate CAD models which then are checked into Windchill for further progression.

Increase part reuse with Model Search Our customer enquiries report that a new part created in development can carry a cost from 500 to 2000 Euros in its lifecycle. This is only the cost generated by the need for approvals, storage and information management and not at all related to the part cost itself.

Reducing part numbers is therefore one of the most common initiatives in the manufacturing industry. At the same time business reports show that engineers spend an average of one minute to search for a new part before they start designing.

With ModelSearch shape based index engine, the engineer recieves instant feedback if there are any similar parts and can immediately avoid creation of those. This tool works within Creo but can also be implemented as a report out of Windchill or through the PDS Search Portal for other departments.
