Step 1.Q1. What were the most difficult things when you study TOPIK?A. I think that each person has difficulties in studying foreign language what-ever the part is. Personally, I had a hard time studying vocabulary and hon-orifics because there are so many vocabularies in Korean language and also Korean language was unfamiliar to me before studying.

Q2. What is the most important thing for studying TOPIK?A. Most of all, affection, patience, passion, and time investment are very important.Plus, reviewing is also very important because it can help students’ under-standing when they learn a new theory. These are the same for studying other languages.

Q3. Do you have special tips for choosing a TOPIK book?A. There are many types of books: while some books tend to emphasis on vocabulary, grammar and other books emphasis on writing, reading or listen-ing. In this way, you should consider your weakest part when you choose a book for studying TOPIK.

Q4. How did you study grammar?A. Whenever I learn a new grammar, I used to make sentences for using it. And I recommend using a new grammar when you speak with Korean.

Q5. How to study a long piece of writing? A. Most of all, you need to write an essay in your spare time. It will be very helpful to you.

Q6. Caution for writing? A. Since there are a lot of vocabularies, you should notice of what you select proper vocabulary for sentences.

Step 2.Q1. How to study vocabulary?A. When you study a vocabulary, it is essential to review what you learned; it does not matter if you study an antonym or synonym. If you do not have wonderful memory to memorize every word, you should review what you learned. Reviewing what you learned is the basic essential thing of vocabu-lary study. When you try to select an appropriate word to fill in the common parenthesized phrase, it is basically important to grasp the situation. You always have to know what is going on in the sentence. But the most essen-tial thing for solving common parenthesized phrase question is only one. You should always try to study a vocabulary with its several meanings. For example, the word ‘가지다’ has more than ten meanings. Unfortunately, Ko-rean language has a lot of words with several meanings like ‘가지다’. Thus, we always have to study ambiguous words steadily.

What is a secret method to solve a synonym(유의어), idioms(관용어), ono-matopoeic word(의성어) and mimetic word(의태어) question? Well… as I men-tioned above, it does not matter if it is a synonym or idioms, it seems that the vital thing is to study Korean language more and more. There are so many similar onomatopoeic words(의성어)and mimetic words(의태어)in Korean language. Therefore, for being familiar with onomatopoeic words and mimetic words it is recommendable to read variety of Korean books.

Q2. How to study for writing section? A. Personally, I think the most difficult part of TOPIK is ‘writing’ (쓰기). I am sure that ‘writing’ (쓰기) is the most difficult part for other foreign friends too. I think it is basically hard to write the Korean essay, but for complet ing a subjective question(주관식문제) logically, we should try to think with Korean’s way of thinking.

Accordingly, when we try to complete a subjective writing question(주관식문제)correctly, we need to think deeply with Korean’s way of thinking.

Q3. How to study for reading section? A. The best way to complete a proverb (속담), 한자성어, idiom phrase ques-tions is to read short and long Korean novels frequently. When we under-stand Korean in some degree, it would be effective approach of study to read some Korean books often. I can give you the same recommend for solving rhetoric questions(수사법). Just read some books whenever you have time and try to write several sentences even if you feel annoying to write.

Q4. How to study for listening section? A. Listening part(듣기)of TOPIK lasts approximately 45 minutes. Listening time is not short at all. Therefore, listening part requires our great concen-tration. If you think that your concentration is not good enough, then you need to try to improve your concentration somehow. It is also recommend-able to watch Korean TV shows and listen to radio in Korean. It may help you to be familiar with several subjects of listening part.

Q5. During the exam, what is the difficulty and how to handle it?A. In my opinion, using limited time effectively is basically important thing in TOPIK. For example, if you think vocabulary and grammar part(어휘 및 문법) is easy for you, then just spend less time for that part or if you have trouble with writing(쓰기) then spend more time for writing. And the last essential thing is to take enough rest the day before TOPIK exam. I think everyone is aware of that tip.

Until now, I shared my own study tips with you. As I mentioned today, the most essential things in learning foreign language are your attachment to the language, patience, passion and time investment as well. I think there are some friends, who are going to take TOPIK exam soon. I wish you good luck and good exam result.
