Angela was the Deputy Principal and I was the Principal. This is how we spent our day on Thursday 9 June. We arrived early, ready for the day’s activities, which started with a meeting with the Principal, Mrs Parr. Then we ordered our lunch from the lunchroom before our first task, watching the fan dance group practice in the Performing Arts Centre, taken by Yan Si, our school’s Mandarin Language Assistant. The dancers were very good. Next it was back to the office to decide who would get certificates and to discuss school uniforms with Mrs Tanner. Then we farewelled some of the classes that were off to the Te Tuhi Art Gallery and made sure everyone got on the buses safely. At 10.40am it was time for morning tea. Angela’s birthday was next day so we had a birthday cake and the teachers sang happy birthday to her. We loved having lollies and cake for morning tea. After morning tea we visited classes to look at some student work and take photos of what was happening in the classrooms. We awarded Principal stickers for some of the great work. Before lunch we did a Health and Safety walk around the school with Mr Hickson, checking for any hazards and taking photos. At 12.30pm it was time for the special lunch we had ordered in the morning. Then we went off to help one of the duty teachers, Mrs Oldham, in the middle courtyard. Then we met with Thomas Pook who was Principal for the Day last year. Next we loved being in Room 1 with Mrs Morris’s class during reading time. We had fun handing out certificates, Angela handed out the ones at the Jump Jam and I handed out some in Room 29 with Mrs Sidhwa. The Year 6 Media Team interviewed us and took photos. Last of all we wrote this for the newsletter with Mrs McIlvride. It was a great day. Olivia Wei, Year 4 and Angela Wei, Year 2 Message from the Principal Congratulations to Olivia and Angela on a very successful day leading the school on 9 June. Congratulations also to our newly elected Board of Trustee members: Grant Webster, Karen Musham, Dion Edwards, Mike Pook and Jialin Flanagan. ARRIVAL AT SCHOOL The optimum time for students to arrive at school is between 8.20am and 8.30am. Arrival after 8.40am is a real problem. We are very concerned about the number of late children at the moment. Please have your children at school on time.

After school STEM classes are coming to Point View School next term. It is widely viewed that today’s economy and tomorrows' innovation is powered by the STEM subjects: science, technology, engineering and maths. Great STEM learning opportunities will be available after school every Wednesday for small groups of like-minded children. The first four-week project will focus on investigating 'The Science of Starwars’. Children will work with exciting hands-on science equipment unavailable in NZ. Highlights include, ultraviolet light battles with the Millennium Falcon, a Death Star Planetarium, investigating a Jedi Force Levitator and even using brain waves to lift an X-Wing hologram. For further details and to register please email [email protected].

World Environment Day Competition Samples of our wonderful entries, it’s great to see the effort and thought our students have put into saving the
