M Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister of Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and

Parliamentary Affairs has launched the ‘Inclusiveness and Accessibility Index’ to mark the next chapter

of its flagship Campaign, the ‘Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan’ at a function held in New Delhi on 30th March

2016. The Index is prepared in collaboration with The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and

Industry (FICCI).

The ‘Inclusiveness and Accessibility Index’ helps the industries and corporates to participate in the

Accessible India Campaign (AIC) by voluntarily evaluating their readiness for making the workplace

accessible for Persons with Disabilities. The Prime Minister made a call to the Corporate Sector to come

forward and support the Campaign during his speech on the occasion of the launch of AIC on 3rd

December 2015, which also marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The Index toolkit aims at assessing the current stage of inclusiveness and accessibility of persons with

disabilities by an organization. It can also act as a guide for taking progressive steps to increase support,

inclusiveness and accessibility towards persons / employees with disabilities. The toolkit is based on

research, and the best examples and experiences of organizations that have taken initiatives to increase

accessibility of persons with disabilities and have benefited from such initiatives. The study will prioritize

constructing the Accessibility Index for corporates to measure sensitivity towards persons with

disabilities which will benchmark corporates operating in a given sector with their national peers.

Extensive stakeholder consultations with NGOs and corporate sector will be held to ensure that the

Index accommodates wide-ranging views of all stakeholders and is a robust document. At the second

stage, the study will examine the role of state and NGOs in creating an enabling environment and

executing the intent of regulations in promoting accessibility of disabled persons.

The absorption and recognition of the Index by the Corporate Sector and public sector organizations will

benefit them immensely by –

universities. Scientists involved in the project and the analysis of the data for gravitational-wave

astronomy are organized by the LIGO Scientific Collaboration which includes more than 900 scientists

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given its approval to

Implementation of the National Hydrology Project. It will be a central sector scheme with a total outlay

of Rs. 3679.7674 crore. This includes Rs.3,640 crore for National Hydrology Project (NHP) and Rs.

39.7674 crore for National Water Informatics Centre (NWIC) to be taken up in two stages. It also

provides for establishment of NWIC as an independent organization under the control of Ministry of

Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation (MoWR, RD&GR).

The NHP will help in gathering Hydro-meteorological data which will be stored and analysed on a real

time basis and can be seamlessly accessed by any user at the State/District/village level. The project

envisages to cover the entire country as the earlier hydrology projects covered only 13 States.

The components of the proposal are:

1. In Situ Hydromet Monitoring System and Hydromet Data Acquisition System.

2. Setting up of National Water Informatics Centre (NWIC).

3. Water Resources Operation and Management System

4. Water Resources Institutions and Capacity Building

The NHP will result in the improvement of:

1. Data storage, exchange, analysis and dissemination through National Water Informatics Centre.

2. Lead time in flood forecast from 1 day to at least 3 days

3. Mapping of flood inundation areas for use by the disaster management authorities

4. Assessment of surface and ground water resources in a river basin for better planning & allocation for

PMKSY and other schemes of Govt. of India

5. Reservoir operations through seasonal yield forecast, drought management, SCADA systems,

etc.

6. Design of SW & GW structures, hydropower units, interlinking of rivers, Smart Cities.

7. Fulfilling the objectives of Digital India.

8. People Centric approach: The programme envisages ultimate aim for water management through

scientific data collection, dissemination of information on water availability in all blocks of the country

and establishing of National Water Information Centre. The automated systems for Flood Forecasting is

aimed to reduce water disaster ultimately helping vulnerable population. It is people and farmer centric

programme as information on water can help in predicting water availability and help farmers to plan

their crops and other farm related activities. Through this programme India would make a place among

nations known for scientific endeavours.

It aims to automate completely the process of seeking application, their examination and allotment of

ISBNs.

The portal has developed software has several modules such as users’ registration, online application

submission, ISBN generation.

It also includes ISBN generation request from the National Agency to the International Agency at UK.

The automation process will lead to maintain inventory as well as process the data that will be provided

by the users.

The Union Government has given nod for setting up India’s first personal rapid transit (PRT) network for

Gurgaon, Haryana.

As per the reports, the groundwork to roll the country’s first Metrino Pod project is being laid by the

National Highways Authority of India. The final approval of the project by the government was recently

announced by Public Works (Building and Roads) Minister, Rao Narbir Singh.

The financing for this 'completely private project' will be made by the private company that sets up the

personal rapid transit in the region.

This pilot project will cover a stretch of 13 kilometres from the Gurgaon-Delhi border to Badshapur Mod

The two sides inked a pact for avoidance of double taxation of income derived from International Air

envisages mutual assistance for exchange of information that is relevant to the administration and

recovery and enforcement of tax claims, or the investigation and prosecution of tax matters.

India and Maldives signed a bilateral agreement related to Orbit Frequency Coordination of "South Asia

Satellite" proposed at 48oE. The agreement shall be used for the purpose of performing intersystem

orbit-frequency coordination for the operation of 'South Asia Satellite'; and fulfilling ITU level regulatory

requirements and obtaining international level protection/recognition for the 'South Asia Satellite'.

Both sides entered into an MoU for cooperation in the area of conservation and restoration of ancient

mosques and joint research and exploratory surveys in Maldives. The MoU proposes to undertake

conservation and restoration of ancient mosques and other historical monuments in Maldives. Detailed

proposals for such projects will be developed by Archaeological Survey of India and Department of

Heritage, Maldives.

India and Maldives also signed an MoU on cooperation in the field of tourism. The MoU envisages

cooperation in areas of tourism including expansion of bilateral cooperation; exchange of information

and data related to tourism; encouraging cooperation between tourism stakeholders including hotels

and tour operators; establishing exchange programmes for cooperation in Human Resource

Development; investment in the tourism and hospitality sectors; exchanging visits of tour

The two nations signed an action plan for defence cooperation. Action plan is in the context of defence

of its flagship Campaign, the ‘Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan’ at a function held in New Delhi on 30th March

2016. The Index is prepared in collaboration with The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and

Industry (FICCI).

The ‘Inclusiveness and Accessibility Index’ helps the industries and corporates to participate in the

Accessible India Campaign (AIC) by voluntarily evaluating their readiness for making the workplace

accessible for Persons with Disabilities. The Prime Minister made a call to the Corporate Sector to come

forward and support the Campaign during his speech on the occasion of the launch of AIC on 3rd

December 2015, which also marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The Index toolkit aims at assessing the current stage of inclusiveness and accessibility of persons with

disabilities by an organization. It can also act as a guide for taking progressive steps to increase support,

inclusiveness and accessibility towards persons / employees with disabilities. The toolkit is based on

research, and the best examples and experiences of organizations that have taken initiatives to increase

accessibility of persons with disabilities and have benefited from such initiatives. The study will prioritize

constructing the Accessibility Index for corporates to measure sensitivity towards persons with

disabilities which will benchmark corporates operating in a given sector with their national peers.

Extensive stakeholder consultations with NGOs and corporate sector will be held to ensure that the

Index accommodates wide-ranging views of all stakeholders and is a robust document. At the second

stage, the study will examine the role of state and NGOs in creating an enabling environment and

executing the intent of regulations in promoting accessibility of disabled persons.

The absorption and recognition of the Index by the Corporate Sector and public sector organizations will

benefit them immensely by –

The UPI is a system for instant, online bank payments.

To send money to someone, you need to know only their UPI ID - a virtual identity like an email address.

This could be your name, or your phone number, so for example, if your phone number is 1234567890,

then your virtual address could be 1234567890@sbi (if your bank is SBI) or 1234567890@axis (if you're

an Axis bank customer).

It eliminates the need of knowing the recipient's name, their bank account number, and IFSC code (or

bank branch).

It is built on top of the IMPS, which you may have used to transfer money between bank account. Like

IMPS, UPI is immediate, and works 24x7, through the year, unlike NEFT or RTGS services, which have

specific working hours.

It can also be used for shopping online - instead of entering your debit card number, expiry date and

CVV code, followed by waiting for the OTP, you'd just enter your UPI ID, and get an alert on your phone

to verify the transaction.

Because it's using the phone to verify transactions, UPI is secure - someone else can't just enter your ID

and spend your money.

Anyone can also use the UPI to send a request for money, like an invoice. This means that anyone could

The World Day for Safety and Health was observed across the world on 28th April 2016 with the theme

Workplace Stress: a collective challenge.

The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is an annual international campaign to promote safe,

healthy and decent work. It is held on 28 April and has been observed by the International Labour

Organization (ILO) since 2003.

28 April has also long been associated with the world's trade union movement's commemoration of the

victims of occupational accidents and diseases.
