Interference of structural elements with architectural elements can be successfully avoided by modelers developing structural model as they are already aware about architectural design. Similarly MEP modelers can also link architectural model into their project for getting detailed information about architectural design and for developing effective MEP model. After linking architectural model into MEP model, Revit users can now avoid the overlapping of architectural elements and MEP elements. In this way, when a Revit model is linked into another Revit model modelers working for developing their designs can take necessary steps for eliminating mistakes. Hence we can say that file linking is very important when it comes to avoiding design errors.

Importance of file linking in context of effective design development

The fundamental step that is taken for developing effective design is to collaborate on a building project wherein architects, structural engineers and MEP engineers can share all the critical design data for creating a constructive understanding about building design. When design data is successfully shared across disciplines it becomes practical for different design development teams to work with same thoughts. The process during which design information is shared across disciplines is called interdisciplinary design coordination. Design coordination is an important step in effective design development which is generally performed for all the building projects.

Importance of file linking for developing immaculate design

Revit files that are created during design development for specific disciplines are linked by design and construction professionals into their models for obtaining comprehensive knowledge about the design of the linked model.

For developing accurate design for specific building disciplines it is important for BIM modelers that that they have a fair idea about the design of other disciplines.

And for gaining a fair knowledge about the design of other disciplines modelers have to link the models.

For example, if a BIM modeler working on structural model wants to view architectural design then he has no choice but to link architectural model into his model. The reason behind him viewing architectural design is to develop his own structural design effectively.

Once BIM modelers working on structural design are clear about the location and positioning of architectural elements then they can successfully develop structural model.
