  • Port Waratah Coal Services Port Waratah Coal Services Limited (PWCS), located in the Port of Newcastle,

    NSW, Australia, operates one of the worlds largest coal handling operations. Carrington Coal Terminal has a shiploading capacity of 25 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) and Kooragang Coal Terminal 108 Mtpa. These terminals receive, assemble and load Hunter Valley coal for export.

    PWCS is a continuous, 24 hour a day operation and any system downtime has a dramatic and costly impact.

    PWCS recently purchased three Oracle Database Appliances (ODA) to provide three environments, (PROD, DEV/TEST and DR). The main reasons behind the purchase were: Database High Availability, Performance Improvements, and the Low Maintenance features of the Oracle Engineered System. The ODA units will underpin the core operational systems Kooragang Operations Planning (KOP) and Carrington Operations Planning (COP). These applications were specifically developed for the scheduling and operations planning at the two sites. Additionally, they are supply chain applications to enhance the coal product being exported.
