Church Board Minutes – August 28, 2017 Board members present: John Schutte, Chuck Sohler, George Schroeder, Jesse Jelinek, Ben Galvin, Cade Sohler, Ron Jelinek, Dan Kuhlman, Tate Cunningha, Bryan Pippitt, Cory Linn, Greg Pippitt, Scott Pippitt, and Rev. Jeff Warner. Absent: Mark McCoy. President John Schutte called the meeting to order. Rev. Warner led us in prayer. Secretary’s Report: George Schroeder read the secretary’s report from June 19, 2017. The report was approved as read. Treasurer’s Report: Jesse Jelinek read the Treasurer’s report and discussed. Chuck Sohler moved to accept the Treasurer’s report. Ben Galvin seconded. Motion carried. Pastor’s Report: Responding to the spiritual and personal needs of the congregation, through Word and Sacrament, spiritual care, counsel, support, and education. Confirmation will begin on 9/6, Rally Day 9/17, Sunday School classes to start 9/26. Laurel Ministerial Association President duties have been added, as well as Hillcrest Board, Project Nativity research (daycare), and WSC Bible Study. Ainsworth Pastors Conference will be 9/17-19. Elder’s Report: None Deacon’s Report: None Trustee’s Report: Cory Linn fixed the bell in the bell tower. Lawn needs to be fertilized. Fence needs to be reinstalled. New lines for parked was discussed. Old Business: None New Business: The annual church picnic scheduled for September 17, was discussed. Discussion on the house for sale was discussed.

The being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. The meeting was closed with a prayer.

Orphan Grain Train 25th Anniversary

Orphan Grain Train is excited to be celebrating 25 Years of serving those in need

worldwide. Please mark your calendars to attend this two day celebration, September 15-

16 in Norfolk, which includes a special recognition of OGT’s President, Pastor Ray Wilke

and Vice President, the late Clayton Andrews. Learn more about the impact Orphan

Grain Train has in the US and around the world. Hear speakers from around the world,

enjoy food, entertainment and fellowship.

Christian Sympathies Sympathies to Jerry and Diane McGIll, and family. Jerry’s father, Gaile McGill, passed away on July 16, in Norfolk. Funeral services are Wednesday, July 19, in Tilden. Sympathies to Violet Roland, and family. Son-in-law, Michael Macke, passed away on July 21. Graveside services are Tuesday, July 25, at Greenwood, Wayne. Michael was the husband of Sandra Macke.

NEW BABY God’s blessings to Dalyce and Stephen

Eastman on the birth of a son, on Sunday, July 30. He has been named

Daniel Roberts Eastman. Grandparents are Michael and Patty

Sherman, and great-grandparents are Del and Joyce Daberkow.

LWML Meeting – July 12, 2017 Immanuel Lutheran LWML met on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at 2:00 PM at the Assisted Living in Hillcrest Care Center. Nine members and Pastor Warner were present. Pastor led us in a Bible Study of Psalms 16. President Connie Schutte welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order. Minutes from the June meeting were approved as read. The treasurer’s report was given and showed available funds of $548.29. The report was filed for audit. Correspondence was read and included a thank you from Orphan Grain Train for the quilts. Committee Reports: Visiting: Lynette Penlerick had visited with 7 members and shut-ins. Purchasing: None Christian Service: None Mission Service: Some fabric had been given for quilting. Old Business: Monica Ebmeier gave a verbal report on the National LWML convention she had attended. New Business: Connie Schutte reported she had attended the Zone Executive Board Meeting in July. The Fall Rally will be in Martinsburg, tentatively set for October 17, 2017. The Mite Box devotion, “God Can Make it Better”, was read while mites were collected. Connie read the birthdays for the month of July. There were no anniversaries. Bingo will be on Monday, July 17, at Hillcrest Care Center. The next meeting will be on August 9, 7:00 PM, with Deanna Thompson serving. The meeting was adjourned with prayer. Pie and ice cream was served to the residents, visitors and staff at Hillcrest. Karla Pippitt played musical selections on the piano.

Lynette Penlerick, Secretary LWML Meeting – August 9, 2017 Immanuel Lutheran LWML met on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at 7:00 PM at the home of President Connie Schutte. Ten members and one guest were present. Connie read a devotion from the Portals of Prayer. Connie welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order. Minutes from the July meeting were approved as read. The treasurer’s report was given and showed available funds of $519.39. The report was filed for audit. Thank You’s were read from Orphan Grain Train, and Matt and Laurie Price. A letter from Lawson Short (who is now settled in Lincoln for vicarage) was shared. Committee Reports: Visiting: Lynette Penlerick & Margaret McCoy had visited with 10 members and shut-ins. Purchasing: None Mission Service: None Christian Service: Served coffee, bars and cookies to the family and friends of Elwood Marquart, following his burial in Laurel. Old Business: Connie thanked all who furnished pies for the July meeting and reported that there was enough with some left. New Business: “Be Ready In Season and Out of Season” is the theme for the upcoming LWML Sunday. We will decide on a date to observe this event next month. A Bake Sale Benefit for Deb Patras will be on Saturday, August 26, 10 AM – 2 PM, at the Laurel City Park, near the sale barn. We are to be thinking on when and what kind of fall fund raiser we would be interested in hosting, and bring ideas to the September meeting. The mite box devotion, “In Their Hands and Upon Their Hearts” was given by Sharon Van Cleave. Connie read the birthdays and anniversaries for the month of August. Bingo will be on Monday, August 21, at Hillcrest Care Center. The next meeting will be held September 13, 7:00 PM with Diane Schroeder serving. The meeting adjourned with prayer. Lunch was provided by Deanna Thompson.
