API 6A718 Update

• 3 issues approved at the API SC6 Summer Meeting in 2011

• Add higher strength classes for Alloy 718

• Add other precipitation hardening nickel alloys

• Add another macro etch solution for Alloy 718

• API Standard 6A718 3rd Edition out for ballot

• Sent out for letter ballot on May 27, 2014

• Ballot closes July 8, 2014 .

CSOEM Materials Advisory Group Update

• Elevated temperature mechanical property data needed for HPHT

• Key issue and a recurring request from various presenters

• Proposal for a Work Group with initial SRRR to cover:• Development of HPHT materials test program scope

• Development of cost estimates for test program

• Development of next SRRR for submittal at Winter 2015 CSOEM meeting

• Initial SRRR should be approved

• Proposal to form a subcommittee just for materials issues

• Work materials issues in one place

• Will be discussed by CSOEM….support unsure

CSOEM Materials Advisory Group Update• SC6 SRRR for funding for hardness correlation development

• Submitted in January

• Has been approved

• API staff deciding on when funding will be available

• SC6 SRRR for funding of elevated temp tensile testing of Grade 660 SS

• Just submitted

• Will be reviewed

• Discussion on ASTM spec for forgings for low alloy steel oil & gas equipment

• Some questions as to whether API should be doing this instead of ASTM

• Lester Burgess to continue moving forward with ASTM

Issues Raised in TG for API 6A 21st Edition

• Proposal to eliminate option for austenitic stainless steel overlays

• Proposal to limit Alloy 625 minimum thickness to 0.120” (3 mm) for HH trim, unless an alternate minimum is agreed to with the user

• Proposal to allow use of either Fe5 or Fe10 unless restricted by manufacturer’s spec or user purchase instructions

• Proposal to require prolongations or sacrificial components for QTC’s for PSL-4, with one QTC per heat per heat treat lot .
