Review Economics Word of the Day:

Scarce/Scarcity

Shortness of supply; not enough

When resources are scarce,

prices increase or go up

CHALLENGE: WHAT HAPPENS TO THE COST OF GOODS WHEN RESOURCES ARE SCARCE?

Page 36: Ileap u6 d4 economics.geography.civics.la history

Economics Word of the Day:

Supply and Demand: It affects everything we do and it’s a cycle

SUPPLY: The amount of a good or service

available DEMAND: the number

of people willing to pay the price a

producer is asking

Page 37: Ileap u6 d4 economics.geography.civics.la history

How Supply and Demand Work

CHALLENGE: WHAT HAPPENS TO THE COST OF GOODS WHEN RESOURCES ARE SCARCE?

WHEN FEW CONSUMERS WANT TO BUY A GOOD, PRICES ARE LOWERED; THEY DECREASE

WHY? PRODUCERS LOWER PRICES TO GET RID OF THE GOOD

WHEN PRICES ARE LOWERED MORE PEOPLE BUY A GOOD OR SERVICE

WHY? IT IS CHEAP

Page 38: Ileap u6 d4 economics.geography.civics.la history

Review Civics

Civics: the study of government and how it runs

Page 41: Ileap u6 d4 economics.geography.civics.la history

The capitol of our country and our government is in Washington, D.C.

Page 42: Ileap u6 d4 economics.geography.civics.la history

There are 3 Branches of Government

Page 43: Ileap u6 d4 economics.geography.civics.la history

Branch 1: Legislative Branch* Made up of Congress(House of Representatives & the Senate)* MAKES LAWS

Branch 2: Executive Branch*Made up of the President*CARRIES OUT LAWS*MAKES SURE PEOPLE OBEY THE LAWS

Branch 3: Judicial*Made up of 9 Supreme Court Judges*EXPLAINS AND DECIDES IF LAWS ARE FAIR*PUNISHES PEOPLE WHO BREAK THE LAW

Page 44: Ileap u6 d4 economics.geography.civics.la history

How People in the Government are Chosen

They are ELECTED: *People in the government are elected by

U.S. citizens like us

*Citizens VOTE for who they want to be in the government

*Citizens VOTE during an ELECTION

People with the HIGHEST PERCENTAGE OF VOTES WINS

Page 45: Ileap u6 d4 economics.geography.civics.la history

What Services the U.S. Government and State Governments Provide:

Role of the Government

Repair roads and highways for safe travel:Provide driver’s licenses

Provide schools for people to learn in: Provide resources for schools

How the Government pays for these things:By collecting TAXES from citizens!

Page 46: Ileap u6 d4 economics.geography.civics.la history

What are Rights, Laws, and Rules

Rights: a freedom that is

protected

Laws: something that tells you how to

behave and are enforced by government

Rule: tells you what is or is not allowed

Challenge: How are rules different from laws

Laws are different from rules because the government makes laws, but people and groups can’t

Page 47: Ileap u6 d4 economics.geography.civics.la history
