Thank you to EVERYONEwho worked so faithfully anddedicatedly to make our 36th

Hispanic Festival a tremendoussuccess in so many ways. Theabundance of delicious food,the inspiring entertainment, theaffection and smiles of friends,the thousands of raffle ticketssold, the money raised for ourministries, and the unity of ourparish are only some of theblessings of our 4 day Festival.Hard work was done by many,many parishioners—planning,

cooking, selling raffle tickets, setting up and taking downthe festival stands. Thank you to all. Job well done!

Yet, God in his providence challenges us throughtoday’s Scriptures to put our trust, not in our own success,but in His care for us. For the third Sunday in a row, theLord invites us to trust Him more fully. In the Our Father,Jesus taught us to trust in the Father by embracing hisDivine will. With God as Father, we are to rely on Himabove all else. To lead us to deeper trust, today we aregiven examples of those who trust, not in the LORD, but inthemselves or in their possessions.

Vanity of vanities! All is vain, like one who tries tochase after the wind, for those who fail to make the LORDthe center of their lives. When we lose perspective or ourvision is too short-sighted, we can think and act as thoughwe are the center of the universe.

As Jesus harshly condemns greed, “Take care to guardagainst all greed, for though one may be rich, one's lifedoes not consist of possessions,” he challenges us torecognize the manner by which we measure or evaluate oursuccess or fulfillment. The rich man in the parable seemswise, at least in the eyes of the world, in preparing forfuture growth and expansion. Yet, clearly he is portrayedas “the fool,” as one who cares only about himself. Relyingon his own success and possessions, he fails to recognizethe source of his blessings, the LORD, and consequentlyhis obligation to use them in a way that honors the LORD.Our weekly gathering on Sunday for Mass refocuses ourattention and our way of measuring our lives by directingus back to the LORD.

Thank you again to all who contributed to the successof our annual Hispanic Festival. May the seeds offriendship and faith in Jesus sown through these labors bearmuch fruit for the Kingdom of God.

Estimados hermanos y amigos de San Juan Bautista,

¡Gracias a TODOS los quetrabajaron tan fiel y dedicadamentepara hacer nuestro 36° Festival Hispanoun enorme éxito en muchas maneras.La abundancia de comida deliciosa, elentretenimiento inspirador, el afecto ylas sonrisas de los amigos, los miles deboletos de la rifa vendidos, y el dinerorecaudado para nuestros ministros y launidad de nuestra parroquia, son sóloalgunas de las bendiciones de nuestro 4días del Festival. Fue trabajadoarduamente y planificado por losfeligreses, la cocina, la venta de boletosde la rifa, el montaje y desmontaje delos kioscos. ¡Gracias a todos. Trabajo bien hecho!

No obstante, Dios en su Providencia nos desafía através de las Escrituras de hoy a poner nuestra confianza,no en nuestro propio éxito, sino en Su cuidado para connosotros. Por el tercer domingo consecutivo, el Señor nosinvita a confiar en Él plenamente. En la oración del PadreNuestro, Jesús nos enseñó a confiar en el Padreabrazándonos a su voluntad divina. Con Dios como Padre,hemos de confiar en Él sobre todas las cosas. Para darnosuna profunda confianza, hoy tenemos el ejemplo de los queconfían, no en el SEÑOR, sino en sí mismos o en susposesiones.

Vanidad de vanidades! Todo es inútil, como el que tratade correr detrás del viento, aquellos no hacen al SEÑOR elcentro de sus vidas. Cuando perdemos la perspectiva onuestra visión es muy corta, podemos pensar y actuar comosi fuéramos el centro del universo.

Así como Jesús condena severamente la avaricia,"Eviten toda clase de avaricia, porque la vida del hombreno depende de la abundancia de los bienes que posea," élnos desafía a reconocer la manera en que medimos yevaluamos nuestro éxito o progreso. El hombre rico en laparábola parece sabio, por lo menos ante los ojos delmundo, en su preparación para el futuro crecimiento yprogreso. Sin embargo, él es retratado como “el tonto”como alguien que se preocupa sólo de sí mismo. Confiadoen su propio éxito y posesiones, sin reconocer que lafuente de sus bendiciones, es el SEÑOR, y por consiguientesu obligación de utilizarlos de manera que honre alSEÑOR. Nuestra reunión semanal en la Misa el domingo,concentra nuestra atención y la forma de medir nuestrasvidas, guiándonos de nuevo al SEÑOR.

Gracias de nuevo a todos los que contribuyeron al éxitode nuestro Festival Anual Hispano. Que las semillas de laamistad y la fe en Jesús sembradas a través de estostrabajos den mucho fruto para el Reino de Dios.

Por favor, no espere meses oun año o dos para bautizar a sus hijos. ElBautismo debe celebrarse dentro de las primera semanasdel nacimiento de su bebé. Para preparar a los padres ypadrinos, la parroquia provee 2 clases separadas. Estasclases pueden ser tomadas, incluso antes de que nazca elbebé. La próxima clase para Padres será el sábado 10 deAgosto. Para mas información y registración pase porla oficina parroquial durante la semana.

Please remember that the most important gift you can giveyour child after the gift of life is the gift of God's love and gracein the Sacrament of Baptism. Please do not wait months or ayear or two to baptize your child. Baptism should be celebratedwithin weeks of your baby's birth. To prepare parents andgodparents, the parish provides 2 separate classes. The nextclass Session I will be August 10th. These classes may beattended even before the baby is born.
