IDEA GENERATION
Materi Program Ideation 2015
CREATIVITY
Believe in creativity
Creativity is defined as the discovery of new connection
Everyone has the capacity to be innovative: We are all unique individuals. Each of us has different ways of expressing our
talents, knowledge, values and interests
We all have the capacity to be creative but we express this potential differently
We approach innovation and change with our own unique blend of the four innovation styles
Visioning
Exploring
Experimenting
Modifying
Combine different talents for maximum results
Obstacle to creativity: Hesitancy to try new things, The right way, We want control, Learn to unlearn and forget

Be Curious
Discovering innovative solutions requires open mind, willing to change perceptions when new information surfaces, acknowledging existing alternative ideas
Gaining a broader perspective from a variety of sources, users, stakeholders
Bringing outsiders (Users, experts, partners, communities) to provide feedbacks or bring ideas
Digging deeper to understand various perspectives
Building observation skills, asking probing questions, enjoy asking questions (Why? What If? What Else?)

DISCOVER NEW CONNECTION

Discover new connections
Pursue a large quantity of ideas and make connections between these ideas
Discovering new connections through the use of:
Imagination
Diverse stimuli

Imagination
Imagination is more important than knowledge (Albert Einstein) Imagine more than one use for your product or service
Use your imagination to push the boundaries of what is commonplace
Use your imagination to the opposite of what is expected
Look to other industries or areas for inspiration

Different stimuli
Stimuli are a key ingredient for making new connections Decide what they pf stimuli you need – related or unrelated. The type of stimuli needed depends
on the particular problem and the team’s unique approach to solving problem
Look internally as well as externally for diverse stimuli (list of trends, intuition, internets, historical review, news articles)
Start today to develop a more systemized approach to collecting and sharing diverse stimuli. (write sown on your notebook, smartphone)

Creative-connections Power tools (1)
Rummaging in the attic: many great ideas are sitting in the attics of our minds. Find old ideas and dust them off. Interview others who previously worked on the same challenges and learn from their experience, excavate old research reports, business plans, data base
Cultivating obsession: the best way to find new ideas is to become obsessed with the challenge, meaning that at the beginning of the projects design team take the time to understand the market, the users, the technology, the perceived constraints by observing real people in real-life situation
Analyzing frustrations: solving customer problems sparks innovation, discovering what frustrates consumers about current product, services, or processes.
Identifying the gold standard: seeking out people/organizations that have solved a similar challenge in an outstanding way. Identify them and make a list of elements of the products, processes or programs that made them your golden standards
Adopting and adapting : find great ideas that are already exist somewhere else, adopt and adapt them to your own context

Creative-connections Power tools (1)
Combining ideas: look and practice for new connections through combining diverse objects or ideas around.
Finding similarities: think of other challenges that might be similar or take people temporarily away from the problem encouraging them to change perspective and relate with their own problem. Think about how the problem, product, process, or program similar to other situations. Draw analogies to similar situation.
Breaking down the DNA: break the problem down bit by bit enabling us to focus on the “bit” instead of the whole complex problem. It is similar with reverse engineering. Outline all the element of the products, or steps in the process, look at the DNA and highlight issues and opportunities and how elements can be changed.
Becoming a visual thinker:: when one gets away from the linear process of listing things and starts to draw, new connection appear. Making it visual (objects and their interrelationships allows people to make new creative connections.

Listing and twisting: List the elements, the steps in the products or service, and twist them

Add a step Make it bigger Find other users Speed up Make it more extreme
Eliminate a step Make it smaller Find other customers Slow down Make it less extreme
Re arrange the steps Make it more expensive Improve the quality Add sound Separate
Outsource a step Change the state Decrease the quality Add motion Make it self service
Add an ingredient Change the shape Align with another product
Add texture Bundle with others
Eliminate an ingredient
Put some fun it Align with another service
Divide it Make it more reliable
Change an ingredient
Change packaging Automate parts License Change color
Combine ingredients Make it easier Find new distribution Standardize Automate parts
Make it educational Make it more complicated
Combine otherprocesses
Accessorize
