3 min Introduction to lesson: Class discussion. Teacher asks students about prior knowledge on the “I Have A Dream” speech and Civil Rights movement

12 min Lesson Instruction:1. Teacher hands out note taking questionnaire to students to

help students take notes on subject2. Teacher quickly goes through the “I have a dream” speech.

Define persuasive as a form of writing or speech that is meant to convince the reader or listener of the correctness of an

opinion or the benefits of doing an action. 3. Teacher goes over Martin Luther King Jr’s history4. Teacher discusses the March on Washington

Checks for Understand: While one teacher is working on lesson, the other can be circling the room to determine note taking completion and student interest.

2 min Closure: Teacher assigns “homework” that is due the next day. Students will write a paragraph starting with “I have a dream…” and complete the sentence and paragraph with a topic that is relevant to rights that students may or may not have.Self-Assessment: Teacher reflects on how lesson went and what could have made the lesson gone better
