Thanks so very much for the last newsletter we really appreciate the work that goes into it. Keeping us all informed with up and coming.

Our group here got together in late winter to do some technique review and shared some difficult case histories! So we are hoping to meet up in the summer again as we find this beneficial for us. We hope that all goes well for the Nakusp teaching time and we look forward to hearing all about it.

Friday, April 11, 2008 - Monday, April 14, 2008Location: Nakusp situated in the beautiful Kootenays, in BC, is found half way between Calgary and Victoria where the majority of our Practitioners are presently located. I have secured a room in the Selkirk College, close to all amenities, is a most appropriate and adequate teaching facility. The drive to Nakusp is about 7 hours from Calgary and over 10 (with the ferry) from Victoria.

First of all it was great to leave Calgary in the middle of an intense snow storm and arrive in Nakusp amid purple flowers determined to make me smile. I loved it. Nakusp is a beautiful and hospitable destination for a

Hurley Osborn weekend. Thanks to Mary for a great job and to the rest of you for keeping the dream alive. - Pat Henderson

September 2007 AGM was the spark that lit the concept of a workshop to be held, in Nakusp. Having found a room to hold this event, which came with projector, computer and screen, I was then challenged to learn power point presentation, to outline the course that would be four days

long and then to fill the space with the Hurley/Osborn teaching, which would encompass Section 1 and 2 as well as some practical insights gathered from years of treating spinal conditions. The class includ-ed Cindy, a massage therapist who had never seen a treatment, nor had one, Sherry, who has had sev-eral treatments and now wanted to learn the technique, Lindsay who has just finished her training, Julie and Shirley who both finished their training a couple of years ago, Brenda who finished her training five years ago and Lyz, Pat and myself who trained with Dr. Osborn. It was a mixture of old and new, experi-ence and enthusiasm, sharing and helping and everyone had their stories of success. The highlight was the look of utter amazement on Cindy’s face and whoop of Oh My God, when she felt her husband’s trapezius relax and then saw him standing straighter on the plumb one. If I could capture that one mo-ment, that expression of delight, the miracle that we, who have been doing this for any length of time, take so much for granted, and infuse it into all of us, this spark of a workshop would become a raging inferno. The whole experience was challenging and extremely rewarding and it was so much fun to have four days, uninterrupted, to spend with fellow Hurley/Osborn devotees. - Mary Freebairn

The drive there and back was incredible. Aside from sitting in the car 21/2 days and the classroom 31/2 days, I had a wonderful, inspiring time. Na-kusp was in her glory, the hot springs were fabulous. Mary presented a

great course, full of extended info from our intial training. I was able to fill in a lot since I had the background basics and some experience( Cindy you did so well ). It was great getting a treatment as well, thank you Pat. I am still doing the 3 min. exercises and passing them along to clients. They are also open and comfortable with me palpating the 6 steps to getting the sacral rotation, I ask ahead if I may do this, they are all fine... I am looking forward to Calgary next year, thanks for the great time, meeting all of you and getting me off my island(s) - Lyz Snidal

Besides the weather (snow in Calgary), travel (late start out but with two excellent passengers Pat and Sherry), accommodations at the Casa (with roommates & now

friends Lindsay and Julie) - all which was interesting, amaz-ing, comfortable & family like! The Nakusp course that Mary presented was great from the AWESOME beginning of honor-ing the founders Hurley & Osborn. Getting a refresher con-nection with Dr. Osborn himself and those he chose to sur-round himself with. The teachings some deeper then needed BUT nonetheless educational and forwarding my present knowledge. The classroom time, well thought out so all could participate and with time to absorb. I absolutely loved Mary’s PINK tie n’dye gowns which I was able to FLASH my matching PINK bikini bottoms with - talk about an icebreaker of sorts when it comes to exposing your bottom to a class! Personally I seemed to miss out on palpation times....BUT was thrilled beyond words to FINALLY accomplish my FIRST Section TWO with a stronger understanding! Thank you Lindsay for trusting me to perform such a task on your healing body! I was so excited to get home and start working this section....with my husband providing a sore hip upon my arrival! and yes I have gone on to work it with some clients since and one that only wants a Section two NOW! So that in itself made the weekend for me! Now I look forward to our next time together as I would like to grasp the one and final section available, so I can take it into my far future with grandba-bies...teehee! Sharing of the anatomy DVD’s and understanding the fascia has also helped as questions have come up from clients - like the connection of the fascia at the eyebrow level - who knew. Our times of hang-ing with each other, the hot springs with a group of H/OT fellow Practitioners! Celebrating Julie’s birthday over her own homemade cake - which you will find the recipe in this newsletter! Certain ones took up my offer to provide the Raindrop oil massage and some with footbaths my gift of sharing! and NO it wasn’t too much for me I wasn’t tired the next day from doing that. We did discuss in our class time when we do share our abilities and giftings with others it should energizes us - it most certainly does me. My late showing in class the next day was a result of my over reading and not watching the time and then having to carry back Mary’s table to class - oops! Thankfully it was material I was familiar with, gathering info and assessment of client! It was a pleasure to meet and get to know other fellow Practitioners - for those that were unable to make it - I would encourage for the future that these times are a must DO! In gathering of the blurbs from others over this course I see a common thread of refreshing, renewal and going forward in updated knowl-edge, a greater confidence in all those that attended! It was well worth the time, effort, travel and monies. Thank you again Mary for taking on a new project, Power Point - and providing us with a unique destination to come away too learn and also relax! Looking forward to our next time together - Brenda Passegger

I thoroughly enjoyed our Hurley Osborn conference in April. It was a whirl-wind for me to get there considering all that was going on before and after - it was sooo worth going! It was great to reconnect with other practitioners

and meet a few new faces as well. What a wonderful presentation by Mary on power point, the visuals were great for continuing to evolve my understanding of the body and the Hurley Osborn Technique. Even though Mary described the event as a ‘bit of a Circus’ - I felt the days flowed smoothly and I felt I learned a lot in those few days!

Thanks also to Brenda for arranging for me to stay at the Casa - it was like Girls Night every night for the three of us and an ionic bath to boot! Gals I’d love to do it all over again . . . :):):)Julie Malowany

Flourless ChoColate Cake - JulIe’s BIrthDaY Cake

prep time: 20-25 minbaking time: 1 hr @ 275 F equipment: small saucepan, 9-inch spring form panServes 8

• 1/2 cup butter• 6 oz semi-sweet chocolate• 2 oz unsweetened chocolate (I use the sweetened DARK Calibeau

chocolate in bulk- the full 8 oz it’s nicer than bakers chocolate)• 8 eggs• 1/2 cup sugar (used 1/4!)• 1 tsp vanilla• 1/4 tsp salt

In saucepan on low heat, melt the butter with the chocolate, stirring constantly to prevent scorching. Set aside and let cool to room temp. While the chocolate is cooling, butter and flour the spring form pan.Separate the egg whites and yolks into two bowls. Using an electric mixer with clean and dry beaters, beat the egg whitesuntil soft peaks form.Gradually add the sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form. Set aside. When the chocolate has cooled, stir it into the egg yolks along with thevanilla and salt and mix thoroughly.Fold in the egg whites until no trace of the whites remain. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake until the center is set, about 1 hr. Cool in the spring form pan before removing to a serving dish -- thecake may fall somewhat as it cools.

Great to finally meet and get to know some other Hurley/Osborn prac-titioners. Had a great time at the Casa (getting doted on by Brenda was fabulous! And not to mention Julies fantastic chocolate cake) The

information was intense but very educational and I absolutely appreciated Mary’s power point presentation. If I had to add to the wish list for next time I would want the opportunity to watch other practitioners doing treatments and one on one time to practice sacral rotation.I am looking forward to meeting up again for the next Hurley/Osborn shin dig! - Lindsay Thompson

The weekend we spent in Nakusp was awesome. I wish I had been a little more rested so I could perhaps enjoyed it more. Driving there after my night shift and trying to turn my sleep pattern from night to days was

a little difficult but Mary presented in such an informative and relaxed man-ner even my sluggish mind found the info interesting and easy to absorb. It was also very nice to meet all of you, most of whom I had never met before but we seemed to know some of the same people. It was also nice to be a part of a com-munity of practitioners of this awesome therapy. Thank you all for making it such a positive experience and I look forward to seeing you all again. - Shirley Jmayoff

I guess I wanted to pass on that I found the weekend very relaxed and informative. I left feeling comfortable that I could perform the tech-nique (with supervision, of course!), thanks to Mary’s teaching and

the sharing that occurred between the practitioners with various levels of experience. Everyone was very supportive and welcoming!! - Thanks, Sherry Robbie

Our trip to Nakusp was a bit of an adventure from the beginning. We got to the Lethbridge airport and realized the planes were grounded (due to the snow-fall) so we drove to Nakusp! I was really glad Dean was with me. I was really

taken by the beauty of the area and was so glad that we were there together.

When I realized that everyone was experienced but me because I had never even had a treatment I felt a bit overwhelmed and I think that I still do. Everyone was very kind though and I expect to understand what I am doing someday soon. Thank

you to everyone for their patience with me and I am so excited to be as smart as the rest of the gang. I know my clients are really looking forward to me learning the proce-dure thanks again. - Cindy Sallenby
