Dear Hunter's Green residents, The winner of July's issue Hidden Picture Contest is Sarah Turbiville. Sarah has won 2 tickets to MOSI. Hidden picture in August issue is Please send in your photos and hidden picture entries to [email protected]. School will soon be back in session and all that summer fun with our children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews will fade back into the background till next summer. It is so much fun to be with them during this time and so much fun to see them off again to experience new adventures and take a bit of a break ourselves. Send us any great summer pictures you may have taken. The fourth of

July was a pretty big event for most, this year and luckily the rain stopped just in time to enjoy fireworks. For August make sure to mark these IMPORTANT dates on your calendar. August 1st: Respect Parent's Day (should this not be 365 days?), August 3rd: International Forgiveness Day, August 4th: Taxpayers Appreciation Day (still waiting for my gift from last year), August 6th: National Fresh Breath Day, August 8th: Admit You're Happy Day and cannot leave out Aspirin's birthday, which is August 10th (thank you!). Enjoy all holidays and celebrate life everyday!

The GFWC Woman's Club of New Tampa has completed its first official year of volunteer service in our community. We are pleased

to have installed a new Executive Board and are looking forward to our Community Service Chairmen to put together a great year filled with service projects and speakers. We meet once a month on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 12-1pm. Our meetings are kept to the one hour to allow women to use

their lunch break to take time for themselves and help the community as well. A brown bag lunch is always accepted during the meeting. We meet at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church at 5340 Primrose Lake Circle in Tampa Palms and the meetings are open to new members year round. Our first meeting for 2012-2013 will be on August 15th at 12 pm. For more information please contact the club by email at [email protected] We look forward to seeing you in August. Pack 801 Cub Scouts recently got together to

launch rockets, one of several Pack activities planned

for this summer. Later this summer, boys from Pack

801, which meets at Hunter’s Green Elementary School during the school year, will

go tubing down the Rainbow River with their leaders,

parents, and siblings and go geocaching, a type of high-tech treasure hunt

using GPS and searching for a hidden cache.

Also in July, Webelos Scouts visited the Crystal Springs Nature Preserve in Zephyrhills to complete

a conservation project that will help them earn their World Conservation Badge. Webelos are boys entering fourth and fifth grade in the fall who are transitioning from Cub Scouts (elementary-aged Scouts) to Boy Scouts (middle and high school ages). A planned activity to pull invasive plants from the Hillsborough River had to be scrapped because the river was dangerously high, so the boys pulled weeds and invasive plants from the preserve’s butterfly garden instead. They also earned their Naturalist badge by learning about our local water system, wildlife, and ecosystems.

We welcome new boys into our Pack at any time. Learn more about Cub Scout Pack 801 on its website at http://TampaPack801.com or contact John Forman at [email protected] or 813-758-4398. v

While you may be walking into Anista New Tampa with a sore throat or a mild fever - the cozy leather couches, impressive artwork and HD televisions are soothing enough to make you feel better instantly. But, if they don't do the trick, Anista’s physicians may be able to help. The 2,000-sq.-ft. facility is designed to handle many medical problems than can develop unexpectedly and require immediate attention. "I am a big fan of Anista and their entire staff! Anista has a friendly and professional bedside manner: they listen and explain what's going on and why in terms that a patient can understand. They also take everything you say into consideration. This practice cares about their patients and it shows! After your visit, you can expect a call from them just to check on you to see if you are

feeling better. It's nice to be out of the network healthcare systems and back to the real practice of medical "CARE," as I get tired of being treated like a number."

Mark Smith South Tampa residentWorks in Tampa Palms

Some of the services offered at Anista are: Abdominal Pain, Sore Throat/Strep Throat, Ear Ache, Eye Infection, Headache, Respiratory Infections, Influenza, Suturing/Lacerations, Urinary Tract Infections, Dermatological Conditions, X-Rays - On site, Pre Surgical Physicals, Students/Sports Physicals (only $10 in time for back to school), Camp Physicals, Sports Physicals, Sports Injuries, Laboratory Services, Strep Throat Screening, Pregnancy Testing, Drug Screening, Cholesterol

Testing, STD Testing, and Mono. “Our goal is to provide cost-effective, high-quality health care,” says Dr. Michael O’Neal, Anista New Tampa’s Chief Medical Officer. “We’re not looking to replace anyone's family doctor.

In fact, we want to complement patients’ primary physicians. We know that sometimes medical attention does not necessary warrant a trip to the emergency room and that most doctors’ offices close at 5 p.m. We’re

Among many other achievements, Dr. O'Neal served as a physician for the Toronto Blue Jays for six years. Working beside Dr. O’Neal is Anista’s Dr. Joeseph Fastaia. M.D. With more than 20 years experience in the Emergency Room, patients are in good hands with Dr. Fastaia. In addition to urgent care, Anista offers the latest in advanced medical aesthetics performed by Jenny Molloy, ARNP. New Tampa Schools Rate Above State, County Performance

Schools in the New Tampa area outperformed the overall rankings of elementary and middle schools countywide, with nine of 11, or 81 percent achieving an A grade,

and 10 of 11 or 90 percent getting an A or B.Overall about 60 percent of the county’s 256 elementary and middle schools received

an A or B and nearly 40 percent received an A, according to a release from the county school district. Grades for high schools will come out in the late fall.

State level education officials said 2012 was a year for schools to adjust to new standards and the state Board of Education established a policy that no

school would fall more than one letter grade this year. The state has graded schools on a scale of A to F since 1999 and the grades include FCAT scores and

assessments at the end of the school year. Here’s how New Tampa area schools performed in 2012:

Tampa Garden ClubThe Tampa Garden Club is a member of the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs and of the National Garden Club. There are tremendous opportunities to learn about horticulture, environmental studies, floral design, as well as community improvement projects. Each circle plans monthly presentations on these interesting topics by noted speakers. During the year there are fun events such as the Holiday Market, held in November; the social event, For Love of a Garden held in February; and the Flower Show, held in April. There are community projects such as the Tampa Heights Community Garden and youth gardening projects such as the Kids in the Garden summer program and the Wekiva Youth Camp. Special participation in providing support to our veterans includes providing floral gifts for the veterans on Memorial Day,

Veterans’ Day, and Valentines’ Day. There are so many ways to fulfill our mission: To build relationships through education, beautification and preservation of our community. Truly, you can add tremendous value to your life by becoming a member

of the Tampa Garden Club. Call 813-251-5059 for more information about becoming a member, or forming your own neighborhood garden circle. Now is the perfect time to do it. v
