MAINTENANCE UPDATES, POOLSAFETY AND YOU!

The peak season for use of the pool is here, and the board has authorized an additional cleaning day for the pool by our janitorial service. They will now clean the pool area, grill and bath house three times per week.

A bird deterrent system also has been installed. The system will be monitored for effectiveness and adjusted/moved as needed. Keep in mind that less birds means a possibility of more insects in pool areas. While those tending the pool will try to keep on top of the insects, pool users can help. There is a skimmer net posted on the bath house wall below the clock–feel free to use it!

Peak season for use of the pool also means more chances for accidents. Please remember: Hunter's Chase does not provide lifeguards; pool monitors are not trained as first responders. Members swim at your own risk, and they (and their guests) need to know and adhere to pool rules.

If you have not read the pool rules recently or at all, they are

posted on the wall of the bath house, on your right, as you enter. Though all are important, here is a short list of the ones that bare repeating:

• Members must have their access card to enter and are required to sign in at the pool monitor table.

• Members are responsible for supervising all persons who accompany them. Guests must be accompanied by a resident member at all times.

• Texas State Law requires that children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian when a lifeguard is not present.

• No running in pool area and no diving, for any reason. • No hanging on the lap lane.• No glass items such a tumblers, bottles, glass swim masks, etc.

are allowed in the pool area. • All trash generated by residents must be placed in trash

containers or otherwise properly disposed. Pool monitors do spot checks, will pick up trash pool toys and move furniture, but it is the responsibility of the property owners and their guests to leave the pool and all related areas clean and ready for others to use.

• No smoking or alcohol is allowed in the pool area.• There is no afterhours access to pool.• Obey all verbal instructions from monitors. Failure to comply

will result in loss of pool privileges which will be suspended or terminated at the discretion of the Hunter's Chase POA Board of Directors.

Hunter's Chase residents/property owners are fortunate to actually own the amenities our of neighborhood. We employ service providers to help us maintain them, but it is also the responsibility of the those who use them to do their part as well.

POOL MONITORS• Pool monitors work from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM.• Based on pool capacity and/or behavior, the pool monitors

Hunter's Chase Architectural Control Committee Reminder

Summer provides many residents an opportunity to undertake home improvement projects. If planning a project, check with the Hunter's Chase Architectural Control Committee (ACC) to make sure you get the proper permit.

The ACC is a three-member committee of fellow property owners that reviews applications for improvements or changes being made to your property in Hunter's Chase. The ACC application must be approved before project work begins. Applications are found at http://hca.goodwintx.com/

PROJECTS THAT REQUIRE APPLICATIONAPPROVAL INCLUDE:

• Replacement or new construction of fences, deck or patio, deck or patio cover.

• Major changes/additions to landscaping, trees, walkways, sprinklers/irrigation systems, pool or spa, playscape or gazebo, room/garage addition, storage shed, satellite dish.

Please note that an application approval is not limited to examples stated. Also note that in some cases, you will also need a building permit from the City of Austin.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS? The ACC has up to 30 days to respond to applications. So plan ahead

and get those applications in early. Your completed application–along with required documentation such as project drawings, specs, property survey, etc.–first must be sent to Carmen Glassinger with Goodwin Management.

Carmen will log your request and then send the application to the committee members for review. Once the committee reviews your application/documentation, you will be notified via email as to results, which will be one of the following: Application Approved, Application Approved with the Following Conditions or Application Disapproved.

Remember, you must have approval before beginning the project. Your cooperation with the ACC permitting process ensures the continued integrity of the neighborhood and helps us maintain property values!

If you have questions, contact Carmen at Goodwin Management. She can be reached at:

Getting fit and staying fit can be a fun process. That’s true for individuals, and it’s especially true for families.

Fitness is an important topic, especially when your daily routine involves a lot of sitting, whether at work, at school, or at home in front of a computer or TV screen.

The habits that we learn as children are often the habits we carry into adulthood. As parents, we can help our children build healthy habits and find new, fun ways to motivate ourselves and our children to get active.

Below are some ideas for getting off the couch and having some fun while getting fit:

• Take an active vacation: It’s tempting every day to think of your vacation as a time to sit and relax. But isn’t that what your body does everyday? Instead, you can plan a trip that includes hiking, biking, skiing, and other activities that the whole family can do together.

• Visit a local park: It doesn’t have to take a whole day, but you could spend a few hours playing at a park. Take a ball (football or soccer), a Frisbee, or a hacky sack, and play. You can invite some friends to join you, too. And remember: It’s not just about the kids moving around – it’s your time, too!

• Hold a block party: Call your neighbors, and block off the closest cul-de-sac for a get-together that includes fun and active games. From freeze tag and relay races to hide-and-seek and kickball, there are hundreds of activities to choose from that are fun for everyone.

• Go for a hike: Find a local area where you and your family can go and hike for a few miles. Spend time outdoors, and enjoy what nature has to offer while you all get fit!

For more ideas about fun activities, visit the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance’s Web site at: www.aahperd.com.

The Goal: Be instrumental in encouraging children to develop the good habit of moving through space, nurturing their physical power, and getting fit.

For more information about healthy activities, contact your health care provider or your Concentra health specialist. For more information on the importance of fitness for children, visit the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website at:

Summer Suggestions from Area Libraries

The dog days of summer are coming and area libraries are offering a number of programs to help kids (and parents) survive them. The Austin Public Library offers a summer reading program and others such as Music for Kids, Superhero Training Camp and Doodle Mania. Learn more by visiting the Youth Services web page at:

http://library.austintexas.gov/youth-services

For those with smaller children, the nearby Spicewood Springs Branch at 8637 Spicewood Springs Rd. may be a good option. There are a number of storytimes offered through July and into August. The branch can be reached at 512-974-3800 to obtain more information.

Just up the road from Hunter's Chase, the Round Rock Library has a range of children's programs including Babytime, Toddlertime, Family storytime, Bilingual storytime, Rockin' Kids Club, Tween and Teen programs, and Bow Wow Read to a Dog.
